Triumph Motorcycles will launch the new 350cc versions of its Speed, Scrambler, and Thruxton 400 models in India on 6 April. Key engine specifications for these motorcycles have leaked ahead of the official debut, showing changes in power and torque compared to the current 398cc models.
Key Highlights
- Triumph to launch 350cc Speed, Scrambler, Thruxton 400 models in India on 6 April
- 350cc engines show reduced torque and slightly lower power compared to 398cc versions
- Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X/XC deliver 36.5bhp and 32Nm at higher rpm
- Thruxton 400 remains fastest with 157kmph top speed in 350cc guise
Engine Output and Performance
The 350cc Speed T4 is expected to produce 28.6Nm of torque at 7,500rpm and 31Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm. This marks a decrease of 2bhp and 5Nm compared to the current model. The 0-60kmph acceleration time is now 3.5 seconds, while 0-100kmph takes 9.6 seconds. The top speed drops from 141.4kmph to 137kmph.
The 350cc Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X/XC are likely to deliver 36.5bhp at 8,500rpm and 32Nm at 7,000rpm. In comparison, the existing 398cc engine produces 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. These figures show a marginal drop in power but a more significant reduction in torque.
The Thruxton 400, with the 350cc engine, is expected to generate 39.5bhp at 8,750rpm and 32Nm at 7,500rpm. The current model offers 41.5bhp and 37.5Nm. The Thruxton 400 remains the fastest in the range, with a claimed top speed of 157kmph.
Comparison With 398cc Engine
All 350cc models show a slight reduction in power and a more notable drop in torque. The new engine reaches peak power at higher revs than the 398cc unit. This change may result in a peaky engine character, possibly requiring more frequent gear shifts, especially in city traffic.
Despite lower torque, the overall performance figures for the 350cc range remain close to the 400cc lineup. However, the riding experience may differ due to the higher-revving nature of the new engine.
Triumph will reveal more details, including pricing, at the official launch on 6 April. Real-world performance tests of the new 350cc Triumph 400 range are expected soon.
