This new model aims to compete directly with the Royal Enfield Classic 350, a dominant player in the retro motorcycle segment. Design and Features
The Bonneville 400 test mule appeared without camouflage and will be manufactured in India by Bajaj Auto. The motorcycle features a classic retro design, including a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, conventional round mirrors, circular headlight, and round LED tail lights. The front and rear fenders appear metallic and are mounted in a traditional style. The bike also includes a single-piece flat seat, a chrome rear grab rail, silver engine casing, and a chrome pea-shooter exhaust canister. These elements draw inspiration from larger Bonneville models like the Bonneville 900 and Bonneville 1200.
The Bonneville 400 uses wire-spoke wheels, likely with tube-type tyres, measuring 19 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear. Suspension is handled by RSU telescopic forks at the front and twin-shock absorbers at the rear, marking a first for Triumph’s 400 lineup. The motorcycle is equipped with disc brakes at both ends and is likely to include dual-channel ABS as standard. A new circular instrument cluster is visible, which may offer a fully analog display or a combination of analog and digital readouts.
Engine and Market Positioning
The Triumph Bonneville 400 is expected to use a 398cc engine for global markets and a 349cc engine for the Indian market. The simpler design and components suggest that Triumph will position the Bonneville 400 at the more affordable end of its 400cc lineup. This move is likely intended to attract buyers seeking a classic motorcycle experience at a lower price point.
