Bajaj Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate founded by Jamnalal Bajaj in Mumbai in 1926. The group comprises 40 companies and its flagship company Bajaj Auto is ranked as the world’s fourth largest two- and three-wheeler manufacturer.

The group has involvement in various industries that include automobiles (2- and 3-wheelers), home appliances, lighting, iron and steel, insurance, travel and finance.

The founder of the group, Jamnalal Bajaj, was a freedom fighter and a philanthropist, a close confidante of Mahatma Gandhi. He took the novel step of using business to serve society. He was involved in the Indian national movement and participated in various satyagrahas and congress meetings. He also established several social and educational institutions.

The group was later managed by his sons Kamalnayan Bajaj and Ramkrishna Bajaj, who expanded the business by branching into different sectors and products. They also continued the legacy of social service and welfare programmes. The current chairman emeritus of the group is Rahul Bajaj, the grandson of Jamnalal Bajaj. He joined the business in 1965 and took over as the managing director in 1968. Under his leadership, the group achieved remarkable growth and diversification. He also played an active role in industry associations and public policy.

The group is now led by the fourth generation of the family, namely Shekhar Bajaj, Madhur Bajaj, Niraj Bajaj and Rajiv Bajaj. They have further strengthened the group’s position in the market and introduced new innovations and technologies.
