Triumph has begun testing a new retro motorcycle in India, featuring a downsized 349cc engine. This marks the first time the British manufacturer’s latest addition to its 400 lineup has been spotted on Indian roads. The bike, recently seen in international tests, is expected to use the new 349cc motor for the Indian market.
Key Highlights
- Triumph tests new retro motorcycle in India with 349cc engine
- Design stays true to Bonneville lineage with modern digital console
- Expected launch in Q4 2026 during festive season
- Engine targets sub-350cc tax benefits in India
Design and Features
The motorcycle’s design stays true to the Bonneville lineage, retaining a classic retro appearance. It features a round LED headlight, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, long and chunky mudguards, and the signature peashooter exhaust. The bike uses traditional hardware, including a gaitered telescopic fork and twin rear shock absorbers, similar to larger Bonneville models.
Despite its retro styling, the bike introduces modern elements. It comes equipped with a single-pod digital instrument console. This console may offer features such as smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation, enhancing rider convenience.
Engine and Performance
Triumph is downsizing its 400cc lineup to engines under 350cc to benefit from lower taxation in India’s sub-350cc category. The upcoming model is expected to use a 349cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. While the engine may be tuned differently to match the bike’s retro character, the Speed 400’s 349cc engine produces 36.4bhp at 8,000rpm and 32Nm at 7,000rpm. The new model could offer similar performance figures, depending on its final tuning.
Launch Timeline and Competition
Triumph plans to launch this retro motorcycle by the fourth quarter of 2026, aligning with the festive season in India. The new bike will compete with other retro roadsters in the market. The Bonneville lineup in India currently includes models priced from ₹10,85,400.
