CFMoto 250SR-R patent reveals twin-cylinder engine and design features
CFMoto’s 250SR‑R patent reveals a new asynchronous twin‑cylinder 270° crank engine plus sportier chassis and aero upgrades that promise stronger performance.

CFMoto has revealed new details about its upcoming 250SR-R motorcycle through a recent patent filing. The patent confirms the use of a parallel-twin engine, which appears similar to the engine in the 450SR. This suggests the 250SR-R will use a downsized version of that engine, likely with a displacement around 250cc. The motorcycle will sit above the current single-cylinder 250SR in CFMoto’s lineup.
Key Highlights
- The CFMoto 250SR-R patent confirms a parallel-twin engine and mixed-construction trellis frame.
- Design features include winglets and headlight arrangement similar to the 750SR-S.
- The twin-cylinder 250SR-R will sit above the single-cylinder 250SR and 300SR in the lineup.
- Indian launch unlikely as CFMoto delays re-entry plans for the market.
Design and Aerodynamics
The 250SR-R follows the design language seen on recent CFMoto models, such as the 750SR-S and the V4-powered SR-RR. The patent images show a headlight arrangement similar to the 750SR-S. Small winglets are integrated into the fairing. While these winglets resemble those on larger superbikes, they are likely intended to improve airflow and reduce drag on the 250SR-R, rather than generate significant downforce.
Engine and Frame Details
The patent drawings show the CFMoto 250SR-R uses a mixed-construction trellis frame. This frame combines aluminium and steel sections for structural support. The parallel-twin engine is a notable upgrade from the single-cylinder engine found in the existing 250SR and 300SR models.
The 250SR currently uses a 249cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 27.9 HP of power at 9,750 rpm and 22 Nm of torque at 7,250 rpm. The 300SR features a 298cc single-cylinder engine delivering 29.9 HP of power at 9,500 rpm and 27 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The new twin-cylinder 250SR-R is expected to offer enhanced performance compared to these models.
Market Position and Availability
CFMoto currently offers the single-cylinder 250SR and 300SR in several international markets. The 250SR-R, with its twin-cylinder engine, is expected to be positioned as a more performance-focused option above both models. Although the production timeline for the 250SR-R is not confirmed, it is unlikely to launch in India soon. CFMoto had previously planned to re-enter the Indian market in 2025. However, the company has now put those plans on hold as it re-evaluates its long-term strategy for India.

CarBike 360 Says
CFMoto’s 250SR‑R patent suggests the company is moving beyond single‑cylinder norms toward a high‑revving twin with a 270° crank and race‑inspired chassis details, signalling a genuinely sportier 250cc option for riders seeking sharper performance. If these filings translate to production, the 250SR‑R could reset expectations in the segment and offer a compelling new choice for track‑minded enthusiasts.
