The much-expected Triumph Thruxton 400 has been found testing in the roads of Pune, Maharashtra. This is an exciting development for motorcycle enthusiasts, as the cafe racer is based on Triumph’s 400cc platform, as the Thruxton 400’s design takes inspiration from the larger-capacity Thruxton RS 1200, along with incorporating a frame-mounted headlight cowl and a striking retro fairing.
The Thruxton 400’s powertrain is similar to the Speed 400’s powertrain and features a 398.15cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 40PS and 37.5Nm of torque. The engine is partnered with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch for easy gear shifts. The cafe racer is expected to equip a semi-digital instrument cluster similar to the Speed 400, along with featuring an analogue speedometer with an LCD screen that displays the tachometer, fuel levels, trip meters, odometer, and other essential readouts.
The Thruxton 400 might retain the underpinnings of the Speed 400, including a 43mm inverted front fork and a gas-charged preload-adjustable monoshock. The braking system comprises a 300mm front disc with a radial calliper and a 230mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. The cafe racer rides on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 110-section front and 150-section rear tubeless tires. The Thruxton 400 will enter the market as a unique offering, as it will be the only cafe racer in the sub-700cc category aside from the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650.
