Volkswagen will launch the updated Taigun SUV in India on April 9, following the recent Skoda Kushaq facelift. Spy images have revealed several design and feature upgrades for the Taigun facelift, which will compete in a segment with increasing competition.
Key Highlights
- Volkswagen Taigun facelift will launch in India on April 9
- Major exterior changes include new grille connected DRLs and revised bumpers
- Interior upgrades may feature panoramic sunroof updated screens and massaging rear seats
- New eight speed automatic expected with 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine
- Competition includes the upcoming Renault Duster in the SUV segment
Exterior and Design Updates

The new Taigun will see major changes at the front and rear. The front fascia is expected to feature a smaller upper grille and connected daytime running lights. The bumper will have revised styling, including new chrome elements at the far ends. At the rear, the taillamps will likely retain a connected design with a large black housing spanning the width of the tailgate. An illuminated Volkswagen logo may be added at both the front and rear. The alloy wheels are also expected to receive a new design and finish, enhancing the SUV's overall appearance.
Interior and Feature Enhancements

Volkswagen is expected to introduce several new features inside the cabin to meet buyer expectations. The Taigun facelift may offer a panoramic sunroof, updated upholstery, and a revised dashboard layout. Upgraded infotainment and instrument screens are anticipated, along with massaging seats for rear passengers. These updates align with recent changes seen in the Skoda Kushaq facelift.
Advanced safety features such as ADAS have not been offered in the Skoda Kushaq. If Volkswagen includes ADAS and a 360-degree camera in the Taigun facelift, it could strengthen the SUV's position in its segment.
Engine and Transmission Options
The Taigun facelift will continue to offer a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, now expected to be paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission in addition to the manual. The 1.5-litre turbo engine will come with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG). These options aim to provide buyers with more flexibility and improved driving experiences.
Market Competition and Strategy
The updated Taigun will face new competition, including the upcoming Renault Duster, which is known for strong dynamic capabilities. Volkswagen may need to consider aggressive pricing strategies to attract and retain customers in this competitive segment. The Taigun has traditionally performed well in terms of driving dynamics, but new rivals could challenge its position.
