Volvo is ready to expand its portfolio for the Indian market. The brand has been making ways to introduce its most affordable electric SUV, called the Volvo EX30. This upcoming electric car is positioned between the EX40 and EC40 Recharge in the lineup. As per the latest updates, the brand has been caught testing the upcoming EX30 under camouflage before its official launch next month.
The EX30 aims to capture the growing demand for compact luxury EVs in India, promising an attractive mix of futuristic design, performance, and advanced safety features. The Volvo sales in India are limited to its premium customers. Bringing the affordable EV might fill the gap for customers looking for mid-range EVs. Let’s take a look at the upcoming EX30.
The upcoming Volvo EX30 was seen on the test mule caught on the Jaipur-Delhi highway, shrouded in heavy camouflage. However, the car was easy to recognize by its upward trajectory logo. From the spy shots, the EX30’s front fascia might be recognized by a blanked-off grille. Followed by Volvo’s iconic Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights at the front.
The rear is also characterized by the pixel-style LED taillights. The SUV rides on machine-cut, dual-tone alloy wheels optimized aerodynamically for EV efficiency, adding to its assertive stance on the road.
Since the upcoming EX30 will be an affordable electric SUV, there will be nothing much under the hood. The car might be based on Geely’s SEA Platform, which is expected to be introduced in the Indian variant of the EX30. The brand might offer two battery pack variants for Indian customers. A 51 kWh battery that covers around 344 km on a single charge. The other might be the 69 kWh that provides a long range of about 474 km.
The powertrain options feature a single motor with 268 BHP and 343 Nm torque or a dual-motor setup producing a combined 422 BHP and 543 Nm torque. The car is capable of moving from 0 to 60 kmph in just 3.2 seconds.
Considering the global model, the Indian variant EX30 might offer a minimalistic design inside the cabin. On the dashboard, you may get to see a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system running on Google OS software. Other features might include the following:
As per the reports, Volvo is likely to locally assemble the EX30 at its Hosakote plant near Bangalore, which would enable a more competitive pricing strategy aimed at the premium compact EV segment. Initial reports suggest a price bracket around Rs 40 to 50 lakh (ex-showroom), significantly making it more accessible than the EX40 and EC40 in the Indian market. Although there are no official updates regarding the pricing of the car.
Volvo thinks that the upcoming EX30 electric SUV might attract younger buyers. Volvo’s commitment to safety and technological advancement is on another level. But competition from the Chinese market, BYD, and the all-new VinFast might shake up the game for the brand. Let's see how the market reacts to the brand-new Volvo EX30 when it is formally introduced next month.
