Xiaomi’s upcoming YU7 GT SUV has stunned the automotive world by setting a new Nürburgring lap record, hinting at serious performance credentials ahead of its official debut in China.

The Xiaomi YU7 GT has set a new benchmark for production SUVs by completing a lap of the Nurburgring in 7 minutes and 34.93 seconds. This achievement makes the Chinese electric SUV 1.76 seconds faster than the previous record holder, the Audi RS Q8 Performance. The Audi RS Q8 Performance had set its record in June 2024 with a lap time of 7 minutes and 36.69 seconds.

New Nurburgring Record Details

Xiaomi’s chief test driver, Ren Zhoucan, drove the YU7 GT for this record-setting lap on the 20.832-kilometer German circuit. This was Zhou Can's first outing at the Nurburgring. Xiaomi released the car’s performance telemetry and onboard camera footage on May 19, 2026, just two days before the YU7 GT’s official debut in China.
The record lap was completed using the optional Track Package, as confirmed by Xiaomi. The YU7 GT’s achievement follows the brand’s earlier success with the SU7 Ultra. On April 1, 2025, the SU7 Ultra set a lap record of 7 minutes and 4.95 seconds, making it the fastest production electric vehicle to lap the Nurburgring at that time.
Technical Specifications and Features
The Xiaomi YU7 GT is equipped with a 101.7 kWh battery pack. It uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers a maximum output of 990 horsepower. According to Xiaomi’s filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the YU7 GT has a CLTC-certified range of 705 kilometers.
The SUV is expected to reach a top speed of 300 kilometers per hour. It features an 800-volt architecture that supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in 12 minutes. The MIIT documents also state that the YU7 GT measures 5,015 mm in length, 2,007 mm in width, and 1,597 mm in height. The kerb weight is listed at 2,460 kilograms.

The official debut of the Xiaomi YU7 GT is scheduled for May 21, 2026, in China. The new record highlights the growing capabilities of Chinese electric vehicles in global performance benchmarks.
