Hyundai Unveils All-Electric INSTER: Specification and Features Revealed

Hyundai Motor Company today introduced the all-electric INSTER, a new A-segment sub-compact EV, at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show. The INSTER boasts a unique design, segment-leading driving range, versatility, and advanced technology.

Exterior Design and Unique Features

The INSTER features a bold design that combines a futuristic, innovative image with a spacious interior within a compact SUV body. This design evolution builds on the legacy of the Korea-only petrol-powered CASPER, introduced in 2021. The INSTER's extended body and wheelbase deliver more interior space and a rugged road presence.

Exterior Highlights

• Dimensions: Positioned between traditional A-segment sub-compact city cars and larger B-segment compact models.
• Design Elements: Robust yet compact SUV profile, flush, clean surfaces, strong fenders, high-tech circuit board-style bumper, and bold skid plate.
• Lighting: LED daytime running lights, pixel-graphic turn signals, tail lamp, and bumpers. Optional LED projection headlamps and two-tone exterior with contrasting black roof.
• Wheels: Offered in 15-inch steel with wheel covers, 15-inch alloy, or 17-inch alloy wheels.

The INSTER offers a sophisticated interior equipped with advanced technology and convenience features.

• Technology: 10.25-inch digital cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation, and wireless charging dock.
• Design: Pixel-themed graphics on the steering wheel boss and customizable upper door trim garnishes.
• Seating: Front row seating provides walk-through access. All seats can be folded flat for increased flexibility. Available front bench seat option, heated front seats, and steering wheel. Second-row seats are split 50/50 and slide and recline.
• Materials: Utilises sustainable materials, including black high-gloss recycled paint and recycled PET from bottles and bio-polypropylene material from sugarcane.
• Colour Options: Atlas White, Tomboy Khaki, Bijarim Khaki Matte, Unbleached Ivory, Sienna Orange Metallic, Aero Silver Matte, Dusk Blue Matte, Buttercream Yellow Pearl, and Abyss Black Pearl. Interior trims include Black, and Khaki Brown and Newtro Beige two-tone with full cloth trim.

Battery, Range and Charging

The INSTER excels in charging speed and maximum all-electric range (AER), allowing customers to spend less time charging and travel further.

Charging and Performance

• Battery Options: Standard 42 kWh battery and optional Long-Range 49 kWh battery.
• Motor: Single motor delivering 71.1 kW (97 PS) in the base variant and 84.5 kW (115 PS) in the Long-Range model, both with 147 Nm of torque.
• Range: Segment-leading range of 355 km (WLTP) for the Long-Range model with an estimated energy consumption of 15.3 kWh/100 km (WLTP).
• Charging: Can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes using a 120 kW DC High-Power charging station. Equipped with an 11 kW on-board charger, battery heating system, and high-efficiency heat pump.
• Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Functionality: Provides power for external devices, allowing bi-directional charging without additional equipment.

Global Rollout and Future Variants

The INSTER will launch first in Korea this summer, followed by Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. Most equipment and technologies will come fitted as standard, with optional enhanced convenience and design features.

An additional variant, the INSTER CROSS, will join the INSTER family in the future, featuring a more rugged, outdoor-focused design. Further details will be announced at a later date.
