The BE 6e and XEV 9e both embrace Mahindra’s bold design language but follow unique paths to achieve it.
The BE 6e features vertically stacked dual-barrel LED projector headlights complemented by an illuminated ‘BE’ logo, giving it a futuristic edge. In contrast, the XEV 9e adopts a vertical housing for its headlights and showcases the ‘Infinite Possibilities’ logo, emphasizing a sophisticated and aspirational aesthetic.
Both SUVs come with blanked-off grilles, a signature EV design trait but differ in their LED DRLs. The BE 6e sports C-shaped DRLs, while the XEV 9e opts for inverted L-shaped connected DRLs, lending each model a distinctive light signature. The lower bumper on the BE 6e is aggressive, with integrated fog lamps and a silver skid plate, whereas the XEV 9e features a simpler silver applique, omitting fog lamps.
From the side, the BE 6e and XEV 9e share a coupe-like roofline and black cladding. Both sport flush-fitting front door handles and cleverly integrated rear handles in the C-pillar, enhancing aerodynamics. The 19-inch alloy wheels, although aerodynamically styled on both, differ in design to reinforce individuality.
At the rear, the BE 6e incorporates C-shaped LED tail lights and a split silver skid plate for an aggressive stance. The XEV 9e counters with inverted L-shaped tail lights and a simpler silver applique. Both models include a spoiler on the rear windshield, with the BE 6e’s design being more dynamic and bold.
Inside, Mahindra has taken two distinct approaches to cater to varying consumer preferences.
The BE 6e’s cabin exudes a futuristic vibe with two large displays and a cockpit-like layout, thanks to its curved trim extending from the dashboard to the center console. The XEV 9e, on the other hand, goes for a more minimalist look, featuring three 12.3-inch displays that dominate the dashboard.
Both models feature Mahindra’s new two-spoke steering wheel, albeit with different illuminated logos. The center console in the BE 6e draws inspiration from aircraft, while the XEV 9e borrows its design from the Mahindra XUV400 EV, offering a more traditional layout.
The BE 6e combines dual-tone fabric and leatherette upholstery for a sporty yet comfortable feel, while the XEV 9e opts for white leatherette upholstery with black inserts, projecting a premium aesthetic.
Both SUVs boast an impressive list of premium features, including:
Safety is equally advanced, with both models offering:
Mahindra offers both the BE 6e and XEV 9e with two battery pack options and similar fast-charging capabilities. Both SUVs support fast charging at up to 175 kW, enabling the larger battery pack to charge from 20-80% in just 20 minutes. AC charging options include 7.3 kWh and 11.2 kWh variants for added flexibility.
The BE 6e and XEV 9e are competitively priced to take on established rivals. The BE 6e starts at ₹18.90 lakh, while the XEV 9e begins at ₹21.90 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). The BE 6e will compete with the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Maruti eVX, and Hyundai Creta EV, while the XEV 9e targets larger rivals like the Tata Harrier EV and Tata Safari EV.
The Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e bring distinct flavors to the EV segment. The BE 6e leans towards a sporty, futuristic design language, appealing to younger buyers seeking a bold statement. Meanwhile, the XEV 9e’s minimalist yet premium design caters to mature audiences looking for understated elegance. With shared cutting-edge technology and robust performance credentials, both EVs are poised to make a significant impact in the electric SUV market.
