My constant friend for everyday rides has been the Hero Splendour Plus. With its about 70 kmpl, I can quickly get to work without thinking about petrol expenses. One rainy day I cycled across flooded streets and the bike behaved wonderfully. For city transportation, its low weight and comfy seat fit perfectly.
