The off-road world is buzzing as KTM unleashes its latest machine, the 2025 KTM 890 Adventure R, setting an entirely new bar for extreme adventure riding. This powerful bike arrives now, pushing boundaries with its advanced WP XPLOR suspension and robust 889cc engine, ready to conquer the toughest terrains globally.
Riders are looking for more capability. KTM delivers, offering unparalleled control and performance inspired by the Dakar-winning KTM 450 RALLY that reshapes expectations for serious off-road exploration. This release marks a significant moment, promising to transform how adventurers tackle challenging landscapes.
KTM has long been a key name in the world of off-road motorbikes. Its Adventure series has always pushed the boundaries of what these machines can do. The journey began with the 790 Adventure platform, first seen in 2019, which quickly gained a reputation for its balanced performance both on and off paved roads. This early success laid the groundwork for a more powerful and capable successor. In 2021, KTM introduced the 890 Adventure, which brought a larger engine and further refined its off-road abilities. The goal was always to create a bike that could handle very tough off-road conditions while still being good for long rides on regular roads.
The latest updates for the 2025 model year continue this tradition, making the KTM 890 Adventure R even more suited for extreme adventure. These updates show KTM's ongoing effort to improve its machines based on feedback from riders and its own racing experience. The design of the 890 Adventure R is strongly inspired by KTM's Dakar Rally-winning 450 Rally bike, reflecting a clear commitment to race-level performance in a production model.

At the heart of the KTM 890 Adventure R is its 889cc LC8c parallel-twin engine. This liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine is known for its strong power delivery. It can produce around 103 to 105 horsepower and about 100 Nm of torque. This amount of power makes the 890 Adventure R one of the strongest engines in its class. The engine's design includes dual parts that balance out vibrations, helping to make the ride smooth.
KTM has worked to ensure the engine performs well at both low and high speeds. A heavier part inside the engine, compared to its earlier version, helps with torque delivery and makes the bike easier to handle, especially at low engine speeds. This is very helpful when riding in difficult off-road areas where precise control is needed. The engine works with a six-speed gearbox and has an improved clutch, designed to manage the extra power.
"The 889 cc engine also ensures smooth delivery of 103. 26 hp of horsepower and 87. 3 Nm of torque, thanks to the compression ratio of 13. 5:1, a stroke of 68 8 mm, a bore of 90. 7 mm, a 435° firing order. A single-piece crankshaft."

What truly makes the KTM 890 Adventure R stand out is its specialized setup for off-road riding. The bike features high-quality WP Xplor suspension, with 48mm inverted front forks and a WP rear shock, both fully adjustable. This suspension system offers about 9.4 inches of travel at both the front and rear, which is very crucial for soaking up bumps and obstacles on rough terrain.
The frame is made from strong chromium-molybdenum steel, keeping the bike's overall weight low and ensuring a good power-to-weight balance. The bike rolls on spoked tubeless wheels, with a 21-inch wheel at the front and an 18-inch wheel at the back, fitted with sturdy off-road tires.
These features, along with good ground clearance, allow riders to stand comfortably on the footpegs, which is often needed to manage the bike over obstacles.

The KTM 890 Adventure R is also equipped with a range of modern electronic systems that help riders. It includes switchable ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with a special Off-road mode. This mode changes how the brakes work to allow for more slide, which is useful when riding on loose dirt or gravel. The bike also has traction control, which helps prevent the rear wheel from spinning too much on slippery surfaces.
A five-inch TFT color screen shows vital data and allows riders to connect their smartphones for navigation and phone calls. Other available features include cruise control and a quick shifter, which makes changing gears faster and smoother.
"The KTM 890 Adventure R comes equipped with standard adjustable ABS, allowing riders to alter its interference while off-roading in the off-road mode. It also comes with traction control. Ride-by-wire throttle, giving riders the option to choose between switchable rider modes."
The riding position is upright, which helps riders stay comfortable for longer periods. The seat is designed to allow movement during off-road riding while also providing comfort for long road trips.
The KTM 890 Adventure R is widely seen as one of the best middleweight adventure bikes for serious off-road riding. Its ability to handle challenging terrain is often compared to that of dirt bikes. Many Bikes Review experts point to its balance, low center of gravity (due to the fuel tank design). The powerful engine is a key reason for its strong performance.
While it excels off-road, the 890 Adventure R also performs well on paved roads, offering good handling and a fun riding experience. This makes it a truly versatile machine for riders who want to explore both highways and remote trails.
KTM's dedication to its "Ready to Race" motto is clear in this model, blending race-inspired technology with features suitable for everyday adventure. The 2025 updates, which include new graphics and standard connectivity features, aim to further improve its appeal and value.
