Manufacturing Expansion Plans

The company is investing about Rs 1,400 crore this year. The investment focuses on localisation, new product launches, and expanding the manufacturing plant. Mehrotra stated, "We are on the verge of completing our phase one expansion, which should be ready by March 2027. That will take us from a capacity of 120,000 units to 160,000 units."

Work on the next phase of expansion at the Halol plant will begin next year. This phase aims to increase capacity to about 300,000 units. Currently, JSW MG Motor India operates at near-full capacity. Both general assembly lines are running three shifts. The company increased plant headcount by 40% to meet rising demand.

Product Portfolio and Localisation

JSW MG Motor India launched three products last year. The company plans to introduce four vehicles this year. The first launch was the Majestor, which has seen strong demand. Mehrotra noted, "Our plant can't produce enough, which is a good problem to have."

The company is also increasing localisation. Localisation of the Windsor model has already tripled and is expected to reach about 70% next year. JSW MG Motor India aims for similar localisation levels for all new products.

New Modular Platform and Technologies

JSW MG Motor India unveiled the ADAPT platform, described as India's first multi-new energy vehicle platform. This architecture will support battery electric vehicles, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and extended-range electric vehicles on a single platform.

Mehrotra explained that multiple technologies are necessary to boost the adoption of cleaner vehicles in India. "It is not going to be one technology that will get us there. We will have to look at multiple technologies that can be brought together," he said.

The new platform will underpin two vehicles to be launched during the current financial year. The first will be a battery electric vehicle, followed by a plug-in hybrid. The common platform allows support for multiple powertrains and body styles while reducing development costs.

Mehrotra stated, "By bringing one platform with all four technologies in it, you have actually reduced your CAPEX need by at least half."

Future Launches and Investment Focus

The company will debut a pure electric vehicle and a plug-in hybrid SUV by March 2027 using the new architecture. JSW MG Motor India's near-term capital expenditure of Rs 3,000-4,000 crore will focus on localisation, new launches, and plant expansion.
