2023 Tata Harrier Rumored to Receive Turbo Petrol Engine | Upgrade for Enhanced Performance and Efficiency

The upcoming mid-life update for the Tata Harrier SUV is now available for bookings and is expected to launch soon. Reports suggest it will feature a new 1.5L TGDi direct injection turbo petrol engine delivering 170bhp and 280Nm torque, which was previously showcased at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo.

Tata Motors will use its new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine in the forthcoming ICE version of the Tata Sierra SUV and potentially in the new Curvv mid-size SUV, as well as in the updated Safari. The engine features aluminium construction for greater efficiency, dual cam phasing, a variable oil pump, and an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head.

The Tata TGDi petrol engine features a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger that enhances its low-end torque, improving acceleration. The engine has been designed to keep maintenance costs low and comes with new valve trains and timing chains. The Harrier petrol variant, if introduced, will be available in both manual and automatic transmissions.

The current 2.0L turbo diesel engine and its 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options will remain available for the new 2023 Tata Harrier facelift. The diesel engine has been updated to meet the BS6 Phase II emission standards and delivers 170PS power and 350Nm torque.

In addition, the updated Harrier is expected to offer advanced safety features through the ADAS technology. The SUV might feature multi-coloured ambient lighting, updated upholstery, a new touchscreen infotainment system, and a semi-digital instrument cluster, along with a 360-degree camera.
