The upcoming 2024 Kawasaki Versys-X 300 is set to be Kawasaki's third localized bike in India after the Ninja 300 and W175. Currently, Kawasaki does not have a strong presence in the 300-500cc adventure motorcycle space, which is dominated by models like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure. With the new Versys-X 300, Kawasaki is eager to re-establish its presence in this segment.

Testing and Localization

Kawasaki India is actively testing the new 2024 Kawasaki Versys-X 300, which was recently spotted near Ooty, Tamil Nadu. The new model is expected to launch in India later this year, featuring several updates over its predecessor. The test model closely resembles the version currently available in global markets.

To make the Versys-X 300 more competitive, Kawasaki plans to heavily localize production, reducing costs and taxes. This could potentially price the motorcycle below Rs 4 lakh, making it more affordable than the earlier model priced at Rs 4.60 lakh (ex-showroom). This strategic pricing aims to position the Versys-X 300 as a strong competitor against the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the KTM 390 Adventure.

Design and Features

The 2024 Kawasaki Versys-X 300 retains many features from its predecessor. It is expected to weigh around 185 kg and will come with spoked wheels fitted with tubed tires, measuring 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear. The motorcycle will offer a ground clearance of 180mm and a suspension travel of 150mm.

Key design elements include a tall windscreen, large side fairings, a semi-digital display unit, an upswept exhaust, and a tall riding height. Additional features include a single-piece stepped-up seat and raised handlebars, enhancing its adventure touring capabilities.

Specs and Performance

The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 will feature halogen headlights and turn indicators. The instrument cluster will be similar to that of the Ninja 300. According to a Kawasaki test engineer, the bike is set to launch around March 2024. The test model was equipped with panniers, which will be offered as an optional accessory.

Mechanically, the India-spec Versys-X 300 will share its engine with the Ninja 300. The 296cc engine produces 39 hp at 11,500 rpm and 26.1 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The engine will also feature an assist and slipper clutch, along with RSU telescopic suspension at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. Braking duties will be handled by disc brakes at both ends, supported by a dual-channel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS).

Pricing and Competition

The previous Versys-X 300 model was launched in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and was priced at Rs 4.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2024 India-spec Versys-X 300 will take the localization route, which is expected to bring the price below Rs 4 lakh. Once launched, it will compete with the KTM 390 Adventure, BMW G310 GS, and Royal Enfield Himalayan in the Indian Market.
