2026 Kawasaki Versys 650: Updates

The Kawasaki Versys MY26 remains largely unchanged from the previous model. It blends a sporty appearance with touring capability, giving it a distinctive identity that appeals to enthusiasts and young riders alike. The bike now comes in a new grey and black colour scheme, complemented by green detailing across the body. Besides this, it features a reworked upper cowl that appears to draw inspiration from Kawasaki’s larger sibling, the Versys 1000. Along with this, it gets a 4-way adjustable windshield, letting riders adjust wind protection without leaving the seat.

Additionally, with its compact frame, upright seating position, and wide handlebars, the bike feels stable and easy to ride. The design also takes passenger comfort into account, offering a wide pillion seat with enhanced cushioning and easy-to-reach grab handles, helping reduce fatigue on long journeys.

Engine and Performance

Mechanically, the bike remains the same. It is powered by Kawasaki’s reliable 649 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, which is also found on the recently launched 2026 Ninja 650. The engine is tuned for smooth power delivery and strong mid-range performance, making it well-suited for mixed riding conditions. Moreover, the engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and produces 67 bhp and 61 Nm of torque. The Assist & Slipper Clutch smoothens rapid downshifts and reduces clutch effort for more relaxed rides. All in all, the Versys 650 is designed as a distance-focused motorcycle, offering a relaxed riding experience and flexibility for riders.

Features and Technology

The bike comes equipped with a fully digital 4.3-inch TFT colour instrument cluster that offers smartphone connectivity, a feature not available on the previous model. It also gets symmetrical LED headlights, taillights, and turn indicators, giving it a modern appearance while improving visibility during night riding. Additionally, the motorcycle is fully E20-compatible. Other highlights include a 41 mm inverted front fork, a remote preload-adjustable rear monoshock, KTRC (Kawasaki Traction Control), a 21-litre fuel tank, an 845 mm seat height, 170 mm ground clearance, and a kerb weight of around 220 kg.

Pricing and Rivals

The Kawasaki Versys 650 has been launched at a price of Rs 8.63 (ex-showroom) lakh in the Indian market. The bike occupies a fairly unique space with no direct rivals, although the Honda NX500 and Moto Morini X-Cape 650 can be considered its closest competitors.

Verdict

The 2026 Versys 650 plays it safe, prioritizing continuity over change. While the lack of major updates may disappoint some, its proven touring comfort, refined engine behaviour and everyday versatility still work in its favour. For riders valuing reliability and long-distance ease over novelty, the Versys 650 remains a sensible, no-nonsense adventure-tourer choice.
