The 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift has been spotted testing, revealing design updates inspired by the Roxx variant. The new model is expected to launch later this year. Spy shots, credited to automotive enthusiast G. Rajan, show several exterior and equipment changes compared to the current Thar.
Key Highlights
- 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift adopts Roxx-inspired exterior design elements
- Flush circular headlamps and C-shaped LED DRLs featured on the facelift
- Possible 19-inch alloy wheels and new taillamp design borrowed from Roxx
- Expected feature upgrades include Level 2 ADAS and enhanced comfort features
- Powertrain options remain unchanged with diesel and petrol engine choices
Exterior Design Updates

The front of the 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift features a grille, lighting elements, and bumper similar to the Roxx. Unlike the current Thar's recessed circular headlamps, the facelift uses circular headlamps that are flush with the grille. C-shaped LED daytime running lights are also visible. These design elements aim to give the Thar a more refined appearance while helping reduce production costs by sharing parts with the Roxx.
The side profile remains largely unchanged from the existing Thar. However, the test mule's alloy wheels, though camouflaged, appear to be the 19-inch design used on the Roxx. The current Thar offers R16 wheels on the AXT variant and R18 wheels on the LXT.
At the rear, the taillamps seem borrowed from the Roxx, featuring vertically stacked rectangular units with distinctive detailing. The test vehicle also displays the Galaxy Grey color, which is already available on the Thar, but new color options may be introduced with the facelift.
Expected Features and Powertrain
The 2025 Thar, launched in October last year, received several new features. The upcoming facelift is expected to further expand the equipment list. One key addition could be Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), similar to the Roxx, which offers 10 ADAS features tailored for Indian roads. Other possible features include automatic climate control, an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, ventilated front seats, auto-folding outside mirrors, keyless entry with push-button start, and a wireless charging pad.
The Thar facelift will retain the current model's powertrain options. Diesel engines include a 1.5-litre unit producing 117 HP and 300 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission in rear-wheel drive format. The 2.2-litre diesel engine delivers 130 HP and 300 Nm of torque.
Petrol variants use a 2.0-litre turbo engine generating 150 HP and 300 Nm (manual) or 320 Nm (automatic). Both the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines are available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The 2.2-litre diesel variants come with four-wheel drive, while the 2.0-litre petrol variants offer both four-wheel and rear-wheel drive options.
Launch Timeline
The 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift is expected to debut later this year. The model will build on the updates introduced with the 2025 Thar and add further enhancements in design and features.

As testing continues, anticipation builds for Mahindra’s official debut, promising a bolder, feature-packed off-roader for Indian roads.
