Key Highlights
- 2027 MG Starlight EV spied in India ahead of launch
- Seven seater SUV to rival Mahindra XEV 9S in Indian market
- Expected features include 12.8 inch touchscreen and panoramic sunroof
- Battery options provide 500 to 540 km range as per CLTC standards
Design and Exterior Features

The test vehicle is the battery electric version of the Starlight SUV. The heavily camouflaged prototype matches the design patent images filed by MG. The SUV features distinctive lighting, a closed-off grille, and an upright front fascia. The flat bonnet and prominent bumper give it a strong road presence.
The side profile includes squared wheel arches, flat body panels, a flat roof, and roof rails. Patent images show body cladding, conventional door handles, dual-tone outside rearview mirrors, and blacked-out A, B, and C pillars. The D-pillars are body-colored with contrasting trim. Sporty five-spoke alloy wheels are visible in patent images, while the test vehicle's wheels remain camouflaged. At the rear, the SUV has a dual-tone roof-mounted spoiler, raked windshield, and wraparound taillamps. The boot lid and rear bumper have a simple design.
Dimensions and Interior Features

The Wuling Starlight, which serves as the base for the MG Starlight, measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,810 mm. The SUV is designed to appeal to families, offering a spacious cabin and comfort-focused features.
Expected interior highlights include a 12.8-inch floating touchscreen, remote functions, over-the-air updates, and 4G connectivity. Other features likely to be offered are a column-mounted gear selector, panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, wireless charging pad, and a 180-degree recliner mode for seating.
Powertrain and Battery Options
Globally, the Starlight BEV offers two battery pack options: a 60 kWh LFP battery and a 69.2 kWh MAGIC Battery Pro LFP. These provide a range of 500 to 540 km under CLTC standards. The electric motor produces 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque. All versions use a front-wheel-drive configuration.
MG is expected to offer the Starlight in both plug-in hybrid and battery electric formats in India. Internal combustion engine variants are available in other markets but are unlikely to be introduced in India.
