Honda Cars India is enjoying success with the Elevate SUV, receiving good feedback in export markets. Amidst this success, the brand’s most affordable model, the Amaze, has been rumored to be in development. Initially expected to launch in 2024, recent spy shots have revealed the 3rd Gen Honda Amaze testing in India, suggesting a 2025 launch instead.
First Look at the 3rd Gen Honda Amaze
Honda typically keeps its test vehicles well hidden, but India’s observant enthusiasts managed to capture the new Amaze. The car is believed to be based on a modified version of the City and Elevate platforms, simplifying research, development, and manufacturing processes.
The spy shots, though limited to the rearview, reveal new horizontally stacked tail lights. Additionally, the upcoming Amaze appears to feature adjustable headrests at the rear, an improvement over the current model. While the overall silhouette remains similar to the 2nd Gen Amaze, more details will emerge with future sightings.
What to Expect?
Design inspirations from current global Honda models are anticipated in the new Amaze. Known for its balanced proportions among sub-4m sedans, the Amaze might also see interior upgrades, such as a new dashboard and a larger free-standing infotainment system.
The current Honda Amaze is already a solid vehicle but could benefit from enhanced quality and additional features. Potential improvements in the 3rd Gen model include rear AC vents, leatherette upholstery options, and a front armrest.
Specs and Features
Under the hood, the 3rd Gen Amaze is unlikely to feature the 1.0L turbo petrol from the global lineup. Instead, it might continue with the familiar 1.2L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine or adopt the 1.5L NA petrol engine from the City sedan and Elevate. While the latter would not benefit from B-segment tax advantages, it would align Honda’s Indian portfolio with a single platform and engine.
Transmission options are expected to include both manual and CVT. Although the official launch timeline is not confirmed, the new Amaze could debut by late 2024 or early 2025. Upon its release, the 3rd Gen Honda Amaze will compete with the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
