Unlike the international model, which uses the CMF-B platform, the Indian-spec Duster is built on the RGMP platform. This architecture prioritizes durability and flexibility. It supports a range of vehicle sizes from sub-4-meter cars to 4.7-meter models, including compact and mid-size SUVs, MPVs, and sedans. The platform can accommodate 5-, 6-, or 7-seat layouts and supports 2WD, 4WD, and electric AWD (e-4WD) configurations. This flexibility allows Renault to adapt the Duster for future regulations and emerging technologies.
Advanced Powertrain and Safety Features

The new Renault Duster offers three engine options: a 1.3-liter turbo petrol with mild-hybrid technology, a 1.8-liter turbo strong hybrid, and a DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission) or DHT (dedicated hybrid transmission). The Turbo 160 petrol engine uses dual injection, injecting fuel twice during the combustion cycle to improve efficiency and performance. Renault claims this engine is ready for upcoming BS7 emission norms.
Safety is a major focus for the Duster. Renault aims for a 5-star safety rating, and the body structure uses 57 percent advanced high-strength steel to enhance crash protection. The SUV will offer 12 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features, specifically tuned for Indian traffic and road conditions. The Duster also includes six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera, all-wheel disc brakes, parking sensors, and a Level-2 ADAS suite.
Design, Comfort, and Technology
The Duster's exterior features slim LED daytime running lights, a bold 'DUSTER' grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, tall roof rails, and a connected LED light bar at the rear. Inside, the cabin has a layered black dashboard, dual digital screens, leatherette seats, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Key features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, and a powered tailgate.
Renault worked with the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur to test the Duster's body in a wind tunnel, reducing wind noise for a quieter cabin at highway speeds. The SUV uses a rear stabilizer bar to reduce body roll and improve stability during quick maneuvers. Low-steel brake pads provide a strong initial bite and better heat dissipation. The electric power steering uses a 100A BLDC motor, keeping steering light in the city and stable on highways.
Launch and Market Position
The Renault Duster will launch in India on March 17, with expected prices starting at Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with models such as the Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, the upcoming Skoda Kushaq facelift, and the Nissan Tekton.
