Maruti Suzuki launched the Victoris in India in September last year, with prices starting at Rs. 1.050 lakh (ex-showroom). The Victoris is the brand’s second offering in the mid-size SUV segment after the Grand Vitara.
The model has established its presence and contributed to additional sales for the company. This strategy mirrors approaches by other automakers, such as Tata with the Sierra and Curvv and Hyundai with the Creta and Seltos, but Maruti has implemented it across a broader market spectrum.
Key Highlights
- The Maruti Victoris was launched in India in September last year starting at Rs 10.50 lakh ex-showroom.
- CNG variants made up half of Victoria's bookings in July 2026, reflecting strong demand.
- The Victoris is the first Maruti CNG model with an underbody tank, freeing up boot space.
- Engine options include 1.5-litre petrol with mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrains.
- Transmission choices are five-speed manual, six-speed automatic and e-CVT with AllGrip trim available.
Strong Demand for CNG Variant
Maruti Suzuki recently released key sales data for the previous month. Notably, the CNG variants of the Victoris accounted for half of the model’s total bookings in July 2026. This indicates a significant demand for the CNG-powered version, which appeals to buyers seeking affordable and eco-friendly fuel options. The absence of diesel-powered vehicles in Maruti’s lineup may also contribute to the higher demand for CNG models.
The Victoris is the first Maruti CNG model in India to feature an underbody CNG tank. This design innovation frees up boot space, allowing owners to carry more luggage. Maruti plans to introduce this underbody CNG tank technology to other models in its portfolio. The updated Brezza is expected to be the next recipient of this feature.
Engine and Transmission Options
Besides the CNG variant, Maruti offers the Victoris with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Customers can choose between mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrains. Transmission options include a five-speed manual gearbox, a six-speed torque converter automatic, and an e-CVT unit.
The Victoris also comes in an AllGrip trim, which provides enhanced traction and stability for varied driving conditions. Maruti Suzuki’s focus on expanding its CNG and hybrid offerings aligns with changing consumer preferences in India.
As fuel prices rise and environmental concerns grow, more buyers are considering alternative fuel vehicles. The Victoris’s performance in the market demonstrates the effectiveness of Maruti’s strategy and the growing acceptance of CNG technology in the mid-size SUV segment.
CarBike 360 Says
The growing demand for the Maruti Victoris CNG underscores a clear shift in buyer preference toward economical and environmentally conscious mobility. As fuel prices remain volatile, CNG-powered SUVs are becoming a practical alternative in the mid-size segment. With Maruti’s strong service network and reliability, the Victoris is well positioned to sustain its upward momentum in the market.
