Ampere Vehicles, which is owned by Greaves Cotton Limited, has announced its plans to introduce a new variant of the Primus electric scooter. Currently, the high-speed electric scooter is equipped with drum brakes at the front and rear, as seen during its launch at the Auto Expo 2023 in January this year. However, the company has been working on introducing a disc brake variant for the Primus.
In an exclusive conversation with HT Auto, Ampere's Chief Technology Officer Ram Rajappa revealed that the company is currently in the planning phase for the new variant of the Primus electric scooter, which will feature a disc brake at the front. He also mentioned that the introduction of the disc brake variant is slated to take place sometime later this year, though an exact launch date has not yet been confirmed.
The move to introduce a disc brake variant for the Primus electric scooter is in line with Ampere's commitment to continuously improve and enhance its electric vehicle offerings. A disc brake provides better stopping power and improves safety on the road, especially at high speeds. The introduction of a disc brake variant for the Primus electric scooter is likely to appeal to customers who prioritize safety and performance in their purchase decisions.
According to Rajappa, Ampere Vehicles is currently examining customer reviews and feedback to make necessary improvements for the upcoming disc brake variant of the Primus electric scooter. However, he did not reveal any details regarding the expected pricing of this variant. It is likely to be slightly more expensive than the current drum-brake variant, which is priced at Rs. 109,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Rajappa also discussed other upcoming products from the EV manufacturer, stating that there will be a fully geared product equipped with a touchscreen and a range of connectivity features.
Ampere CEO Sanjay Behl has teased that the company is diligently working on a fully geared electric scooter, with plans to launch it in the near future. Behl expressed the company's goal to penetrate various sub-segments of the rapidly expanding Indian electric scooter market.
In a recent product strategy announcement, Ampere revealed its intention to capture both B2C and B2B segments, by introducing scooters suitable for both private and last-mile delivery purposes. Currently, the company boasts a portfolio of three electric scooters - Primus, Magnus EX and Zeal EX. However, with an ambitious product strategy in mind, the EV manufacturer aims to unveil several new models in the current financial year.
