ARAI-Micelio Digital Twin Lab Revolutionizes EV Development in India

Indian mobility is growing rapidly, and this can be seen by the fourth edition of the annual Global Clean Mobility Summit. According to the latest news, the Automobile Research Association of India (ARAI), in collaboration with Micelio Mobility and IIT Guwahati, has officially launched its fully operational Digital Twin Lab, marking a transformative milestone for India’s electric mobility sector.

Backed by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, this first-of-its-kind facility is designed to accelerate innovation. The lab enables startups, MSMEs, and OEMs to virtually validate EV components such as battery packs, motors, and drivetrains under real-world conditions. This would help in reducing development costs and time-to-market; the initiative strengthens India’s position in global clean mobility innovation while aligning with national missions like.

Hub-and-Spoke Model for Nationwide Access

The Digital Twin Lab operates on an innovative hub-and-spoke framework, with its primary facility at ARAI in Pune and two strategic spokes—one situated at Micelio Discovery Studio in Bengaluru and the other at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati. This strategic distribution ensures geographically inclusive access to cutting-edge digital twin infrastructure, fostering innovation across diverse ecosystems.

By decentralizing high-end simulation capabilities, the model empowers regional innovators to refine designs and validate performance without requiring substantial capital investment in physical testing infrastructure. This approach supports scalable, localized EV development tailored to India’s unique road and climate conditions.

Advanced Simulation and Validation Capabilities

The lab integrates digital twin modeling with AI/ML-driven simulation tools and Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) testing systems to deliver precise performance predictions. Engineers can simulate thermal behavior, energy consumption, wear and tear, and dynamic load conditions, enabling robust virtual validation before physical prototyping.

These capabilities significantly reduce reliance on time-consuming physical trials, allowing faster iteration cycles and improved product reliability. For startups, this means accelerated product development timelines and enhanced investor readiness through data-backed validation.

From The Director’s Desk

Speaking about the latest innovative approach, Mr. Shreays Shibulal, Founder and Director of Micelio Mobility, said, “By providing access to the advanced digital twin infrastructure, we are reducing time-to-market and development cost. We are also enabling a new generation of Indian EV innovators to compete globally while developing solutions especially tailored to Indian conditions and requirements.”

Driving Startup and MSME Growth

Micelio Mobility, a key partner in the initiative, emphasizes the lab’s role in nurturing India’s clean mobility startups. The organization complements the lab’s technical offerings with financial and skill development support. Startups gain access to state-of-the-art validation tools typically available only to large OEMs, leveling the playing field and encouraging innovation across the country.

Conclusion

The Digital Twin Lab aligns with India’s broader vision of technological self-reliance and sustainable mobility. By developing advanced digital infrastructure for EV development, it supports the government’s push for a robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem. These developments would be under the Digital Public Infrastructure framework. The lab’s integration with Micelio Engage and Micelio Pulse further strengthens ecosystem collaboration through knowledge sharing and advocacy.
