Key Highlights

  • Audi and SAIC will launch a new electric limousine in China in 2027
  • The sedan will feature AUDI badging instead of the Four Rings logo
  • E5 Sportback sales reached 10000 units since September 2025 but declined after a new EV tax

Upcoming Electric Sedan Details

The new electric sedan will feature 'AUDI' badging in capital letters, replacing the traditional Four Rings logo. This approach follows the branding seen on the E5 Sportback and E7X SUV. The sedan will not be the only three-box model in Audi's China lineup. The locally assembled A5 sedan, which has a boot lid, is also available, differing from the liftback version sold elsewhere.

The upcoming sedan is expected to be positioned alongside the China-exclusive Audi A6L e-tron. The A6L e-tron is built on Audi's new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. More technical and design details about the new sedan are yet to be announced.

Current and Future Model Lineup

The Audi-SAIC joint venture currently sells the E5 Sportback in China. The E7X SUV is scheduled for launch in the second quarter of 2026. The new electric limousine will follow in 2027, expanding the joint venture's electric vehicle portfolio in the Chinese market.

With these new models, the SAIC-Audi partnership aims to strengthen its position in China's competitive electric vehicle sector. The joint venture has faced challenges, including a recent decline in sales. Since its launch in September 2025, the E5 Sportback has sold a total of 10,000 units. However, sales dropped in January and February, and only 2,630 units were sold in March 2026. This decrease followed the introduction of a 5 percent tax on electric vehicles, which was not previously in place.

The SAIC-Audi joint venture continues to adapt its strategy to address market changes and consumer preferences in China. The upcoming sedan is a key part of its efforts to regain market share and appeal to high-end electric vehicle buyers.
