Bentley's legendary W-12 engine is being retired and replaced by a new, more powerful hybrid V-8. The hybrid setup made its debut in the 2025 Continental GT Speed and now powers the 2025 Flying Spur, marking a significant performance upgrade.
Power and Performance
The 2025 Flying Spur is the most powerful sedan Bentley has ever produced. Its new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 hybrid generates an impressive 771 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, surpassing the outgoing W-12 in every aspect. This new setup boasts a 19% increase in horsepower and an 11% boost in torque compared to its predecessor. As a result, the Flying Spur can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, which is half a second quicker than the previous model.
Hybrid System and Range
Alongside the V-8 engine is a 25.9-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which alone provides 187 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. This gives the Flying Spur an all-electric driving range of 47 miles (based on the EU cycle) at speeds of up to 87 mph. When combined with the gas engine, the total driving range reaches 515 miles, making it ideal for long-distance travel.
Battery-Specific Drive Modes
The Flying Spur offers four battery-specific drive modes to maximize the hybrid system's capabilities:
- Pure EV – Full electric driving mode.
- Electric Boost – Combines electric power with the gas engine for extra performance.
- Regenerative Braking – Recharges the battery by converting braking energy.
- Charge Mode – Uses the gas engine to power the wheels while also recharging the battery.
The vehicle can also be recharged using a Level 2 charger, taking 2 hours and 45 minutes at an 11-kilowatt rate.
Advanced Chassis and Handling
Bentley’s new Active Chassis system is standard on the 2025 Flying Spur. This system integrates adaptive suspension with all-wheel steering, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and updated electronic stability control (ESC) software. The car's weight distribution is almost even, with 48.3% at the front and 51.7% at the rear, enhancing its balance and driving dynamics.
Exterior Design
At first glance, the new Flying Spur looks similar to its predecessor, but there are subtle differences. The iconic rounded Bentley headlights remain, but the 2025 model features a unique Speed-specific grille design and a reworked front bumper with aggressive vents. Buyers can also opt for a Styling Specification aero package, which sharpens the car’s appearance with either carbon fiber or body-colored accents.
The Flying Spur comes in 101 different exterior color options, including shades from Bentley’s historical catalog.
Interior and Technology Upgrades
Inside, the 2025 Flying Spur benefits from a significant technology upgrade, thanks to Bentley's updated electrical architecture. The cabin features a new digital instrument cluster and a center touchscreen, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Over-the-air updates for navigation and other features are available. Additionally, the new My Bentley App Studio allows owners to download third-party apps for music, gaming, and navigation, further enhancing the car’s infotainment capabilities.
Conclusion
The 2025 Bentley Flying Spur sets new benchmarks in power, luxury, and technology. With its advanced hybrid system, upgraded chassis, and a host of customization options, it continues Bentley’s tradition of crafting high-performance luxury sedans that are both cutting-edge and timeless.
