BMW i7 eDrive50 Launched: New Electric Sedan Variant Replaces xDrive60
The BMW i7 eDrive50, priced at Rs 2.03 crore, replaces the xDrive60 variant with a single-motor powertrain, offering 449hp and a WLTP range of 603km.
BMW has introduced a new variant of its bestselling electric luxury sedan in India, the BMW i7 eDrive50. This new model replaces the previous xDrive60 variant and comes with a few upgrades. Priced at Rs 2.03 crore (ex-showroom), the i7 eDrive50 may not feature significant cosmetic changes but includes a different powertrain setup. Let’s take a detailed look at what’s new in this variant of the BMW i7.
Features and Design
The M Sport version of the i7 eDrive50, which has a steering wheel wrapped in leather, chrome highlights, and high-end interior details, is still available. The rear-seat entertainment package is included with it, and it features a huge 31.3-inch, 8K "cinema" screen for an immersive viewing experience.
Soft-close doors, a Bowers & Wilkins audio system, and an extensive range of accessories are among the other important characteristics. An important improvement over the previous xDrive60 model is the addition of a spare wheel in the present version.
Battery, Range, and Power Output
The 101.7kWh battery that powers the discontinued xDrive60 model also powers the BMW i7 eDrive50. It now uses a single motor that produces 449 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque to drive the back wheels rather than two motors. This is simply lower than the xDrive60's 544 horsepower and 745 Nm of torque.
The WLTP-stated range of the i7 eDrive50 is 603 km, somewhat shorter than that of the previous model. With 650 horsepower and 1,015 Nm, the i7 M70 model is available for Rs 2.5 crore for those looking for a more powerful electric experience.
Charging Capabilities
The BMW i7 eDrive50 supports various charging options. It can be fully charged from 0-100% in 10 hours and 45 minutes using an 11kW AC charger. For faster charging, a 195kW fast charger can take the battery from 10-80% in just 34 minutes, making it convenient for quick top-ups during long journeys.
Rivals in the Luxury Electric Sedan Segment
In the Indian market, the BMW i7 eDrive50 competes with other luxury electric sedans, including the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan (Rs 1.62 crore), the Audi e-tron GT (Rs 1.80 crore), and the Porsche Taycan (Rs 1.89 crore). Despite a higher price point, the i7 stands out with its blend of luxury, advanced technology, and electric performance.
