Honda has officially launched the CBR500R Four, a four-cylinder sportbike, in China after its debut at the China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition in September last year. The motorcycle is produced by Wuyang-Honda and will soon be available at dealerships across China. Honda also plans to introduce the model in other global markets later this year.
Key Highlights
- Honda launches CBR500R Four in China with 72bhp four-cylinder engine
- Motorcycle weighs 189kg and reaches a top speed of 209kmph
- Features include ride-by-wire throttle E-Clutch and five-inch TFT display
Engine and Performance Details
The CBR500R Four features a 502cc inline four-cylinder engine. This high-revving motor delivers 72bhp at 11,000rpm and 47.5Nm of torque at 10,000rpm. The engine has a compression ratio of 12.3:1. Honda has equipped the bike with ride-by-wire throttle and a compact version of its E-Clutch system, enhancing control and performance.
The motorcycle weighs 189kg, putting it on par with its main competitor, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R. Honda claims the CBR500R Four can reach a top speed of 209kmph.
Chassis, Features, and Market Position
The CBR500R Four is built on a steel frame paired with a cast aluminium swingarm. Suspension duties are handled by non-adjustable USD forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock, both supplied by KYB. The bike comes equipped with a five-inch TFT screen that supports Honda Roadsync connectivity. Its fuel tank holds 14 litres.
In terms of pricing, the CBR500R Four is positioned slightly higher than Chinese rivals such as the CFMoto 500SR. However, Honda's reputation for reliability may appeal to buyers seeking quality and durability. The CBR500R Four is unlikely to launch in India, as this segment remains niche and has seen limited demand. For example, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R was discontinued in India last year due to low sales.
