ASSOCHAM boosts electric mobility through sector councils and policy push
ASSOCHAM is playing a pivotal role in advancing electric mobility in India by establishing sector councils and engaging in policy dialogue to support sustainable transportation growth.

ASSOCHAM President Nirmal Minda announced that the industry body will work closely with ministries through sector-specific councils to support policies that boost electric mobility and manufacturing in India. This approach is part of ASSOCHAM's 2.0 initiative, which aims to strengthen India's economic and manufacturing capabilities.
Key Highlights
- ASSOCHAM launches 20-sector councils for policy engagement with ministries.
- The initiative supports electric mobility and manufacturing under the ASSOCHAM 2.0 framework.
- Delhi EV Policy 2.0 aims to accelerate adoption and expand charging infrastructure.
- Indian commercial vehicle sales rose in June 2026, led by Tata Motors and VECV.
ASSOCHAM 2.0 Policy Engagement Framework
ASSOCHAM has introduced a 20-sector policy engagement framework under its 2.0 initiative. Each sector will have a dedicated council, led by a chairman and co-chairman. These councils will meet monthly to identify industry challenges, prepare policy notes with actionable recommendations, and share global best practices with government ministries.
The main goal is to enhance manufacturing, reduce dependence on imports, and improve India's competitiveness on the global stage. The framework is built around five pillars: Make in India, ease of doing business, MSME growth, digitalisation, and sustainability. ASSOCHAM's renewed vision aligns with the government's Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap and the target of building a USD 35 trillion economy.
Support for Electric Mobility Policies
At the ASSOCHAM National Conference on Building India as an Electric Mobility Hub for Viksit Bharat, Minda highlighted the government's support for the electric mobility ecosystem. He credited the PM E-Drive scheme, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for automobiles and advanced chemistry cell (ACC) batteries, and the rapid expansion of charging infrastructure for driving sector growth.
Minda welcomed the Delhi government's EV Policy 2.0, noting its focus on accelerating electric vehicle adoption, expanding charging infrastructure, and promoting cleaner public transport. He said these measures could help position Delhi as a green mobility hub and serve as a model for other states.
Industry-Government Collaboration
Minda stated that ASSOCHAM's collaborative approach has received positive feedback from several government ministries and departments. He emphasized that closer engagement between industry and government will help strengthen India's manufacturing and innovation ecosystem, create employment opportunities, and boost global competitiveness.
He concluded by calling for collective efforts to make India not only one of the largest electric mobility markets but also a leading global innovation and manufacturing hub.
CarBike 360 Says
ASSOCHAM’s focused approach toward electric mobility highlights the importance of structured industry collaboration and forward-looking policy support. By bridging gaps between stakeholders and policymakers, it is helping shape a more resilient EV ecosystem in India. Such initiatives are expected to accelerate adoption, encourage innovation, and strengthen the country’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions.
