Exterior and Design Features

The Boulder Concept features Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ design language. Its exterior has a boxy silhouette, typical of rugged off-road SUVs. The front end includes a ridged, muscular bonnet and two rows of pill-shaped openings with daytime running lamps. These lamps represent the letter ‘H’ in Morse code. Vertically stacked LED headlights and additional DRLs are positioned on both sides. The lower bumper is designed for off-road use and includes tow hooks.
From the side, the Boulder shows wide front and rear fenders, sharp window lines, functional side steps, and suicide doors. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with all-terrain tyres. The vehicle also has a high ground clearance. The roof is equipped with a rack and LED lighting elements for added utility.
At the rear, the Boulder Concept features a double-hinged tailgate, allowing access from both sides. A full-size spare wheel is mounted on the tailgate. The rear windscreen can be rolled down electrically to accommodate longer items. The exterior is finished in Liquid Titanium paint.
Interior and Technology
The boulder's cabin uses a beige-and-black theme to continue its rugged look. The steering wheel is a two-tone, three-spoke flat-bottom design with rotary knobs for off-road modes. A head-up display spans the width of the windshield. The centre console houses four screens that provide off-road information, navigation, and media controls. Off-road hardware controls are also present.
The boulder includes a software-driven real-time off-road guidance system. This system acts as a ‘spotter’ to assist drivers during challenging terrain. Hyundai has used robust materials for key touchpoints like grab bars and high-wear areas. Fold-out tray tables are also available for added convenience.
Future Production Plans
Hyundai does not plan to produce the Boulder Concept itself. However, its body-on-frame platform will form the basis for a new pickup truck, scheduled for the US market by 2030. Production models will be designed, developed, and built specifically for the US, where demand for body-on-frame off-road SUVs remains strong.
Hyundai has not confirmed plans to launch the Boulder or its derivatives in India. However, the company has announced a ‘muscular’ monocoque SUV with off-road capabilities for India by 2030. The Boulder concept shown is an international-spec model for representation only.

Conclusion
With the Boulder Concept, Hyundai signals that it is finally ready to challenge established off-road icons with a dedicated body-on-frame platform. The rugged design, flexible powertrain roadmap and focus on American development all hint at a serious production intent. If translated faithfully to the road, the Boulder-based SUV and pickup could significantly expand Hyundai’s appeal among adventure-focused buyers.
