Korean automaker Hyundai Motor India has kicked off the new year with a bang, reporting exceptional sales figures for January 2024. The company recorded a total of 67,615 units in sales (including both domestic and exports), marking an impressive 8.57 percent growth compared to the 62,276 units sold in January 2023.
The highlight of the month for Hyundai was the outstanding performance in domestic sales, reaching a record-breaking 57,115 units. This represents a substantial 13.99 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth from the 50,106 units sold in January 2023. Moreover, the month-to-month (MoM) growth from December 2023 was an impressive 33.60 percent, showcasing the company's strong market presence.
Hyundai | Jan-24 | Jan-23 | Difference | Growth % |
Sales | 57,115 | 50,106 | 7,009 | 13.99 |
Hyundai | Jan-24 | Dec-23 | Difference | Growth % |
Sales | 57,115 | 42,750 | 14,365 | 33.60 |
The surge in sales can be attributed to the recent launch of the new Hyundai Creta, which occurred earlier last month. The revamped model has clearly resonated with consumers, contributing significantly to Hyundai's stellar January performance.
While domestic sales experienced a robust YoY growth, Hyundai's export figures witnessed a dip of 13.72 percent. In January 2024, exports totaled 10,500 units, down from 12,170 units in the same month last year. The decline is also noticeable on a MoM basis, with December 2023 recording 13,700 units in exports.
Hyundai | Jan-24 | Jan-23 | Diff | % |
Domestic | 57,115 | 50,106 | 7,009 | 13.99 |
Export | 10,500 | 12,170 | -1,670 | - 13.72 |

Hyundai Creta's Impact on Sales and Market Share
The newly launched Hyundai Creta has emerged as a game-changer for the company, with bookings nearing the 50,000-unit mark within a month of opening order books. Positioned on Hyundai's Global Design Language of 'Sensuous Sportiness,' the new Creta boasts a bolder stance and premium interiors compared to its predecessor.
The success of the Creta can be attributed to its incorporation of advanced technology, improved safety features, and a comprehensive engine lineup. The model competes fiercely against popular counterparts like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate, commanding an impressive 31 percent market share in this segment.
In a bid to further captivate the market, Hyundai has filed a patent for the Creta N Line, with spy shots revealing exciting features during its testing phase. Additionally, the company has plans to launch the Creta EV later this year. The electric variant, sharing design elements with the Ioniq 5 and Palisade, promises a range of over 450 km with its 45 kWh battery pack sourced from LG Chem.
