The Electronics & ICT Academy (E&ICT Academy) at IIT Roorkee has partnered with SkyySkill Academy to launch certification programs in Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology. The initiative, announced on May 20, 2026, in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, aims to address the growing need for skilled professionals in India's expanding electric mobility sector.
Key Highlights
- IIT Roorkee and SkyySkill Academy launch EV certification programmes for engineers and professionals
- Courses cover EV architecture, battery systems, power electronics, and charging infrastructure
- The program includes online instruction, hands-on labs, and capstone projects for practical learning
- Participants receive certification from E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee upon completion
EV Certification Programme Details
The new certification courses target engineering graduates, diploma holders, and working professionals across India. The curriculum covers EV architecture, battery technologies and management systems, electric motors, power electronics, charging infrastructure, diagnostics, safety systems, and vehicle energy optimization. The program offers both online instruction and hands-on lab-based learning to ensure practical skill development.
Participants will engage in live online sessions, structured assignments, and practical lab exposure. Each learner must complete a capstone project based on real-world EV scenarios. This project is designed to demonstrate applied problem-solving and help build a professional portfolio. Upon successful completion of the program and its assessments, participants will receive a certificate from E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee.
Industry-Academia Collaboration
Prof. Sanjeev Manhas, Chief Investigator at E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee, stated that the collaboration aims to strengthen industry-academia engagement. He noted that the rapid growth of electric mobility in India requires a workforce with strong technical knowledge and practical expertise. The partnership seeks to equip learners with skills relevant to the evolving EV ecosystem.
Himansu Sekhar Panda, CEO of SkyySkill Academy, highlighted that electric mobility is rapidly transforming the automotive sector. He emphasized that targeted, practice-oriented training is essential for meeting the industry's workforce demands. The partnership with E&ICT Academy is intended to deliver high-quality learning programs that prepare candidates for careers in the EV industry.
Context and Market Trends
The collaboration reflects a wider trend of academic institutions partnering with specialized training organizations to address skill gaps in emerging technology sectors. India's electric vehicle market has grown significantly in recent years, driven by government policies, rising fuel costs, and increased adoption of electric two- and three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial transport.
Despite this growth, industry stakeholders have identified a shortage of trained technical personnel in areas such as battery systems, power electronics, and EV servicing. The new certification programs aim to address these gaps by preparing learners for roles in manufacturing, research and development, and EV service operations.
Institutional Backgrounds
The E&ICT Academy is supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. It focuses on capacity building, advanced training, and skill development in electronics, ICT, and emerging technology domains. SkyySkill Academy has experience delivering training in EV technology, drone technology, and other advanced engineering fields and has trained students across multiple states in India.
IIT Roorkee, established in 1847, is one of India's oldest technical institutions and holds the status of an Institute of National Importance. It offers programs in engineering, sciences, management, architecture, and the humanities.
