India's two-wheeler industry posted significant growth in April 2026, with production reaching 2,373,587 units. This marked a sharp increase from 1,852,866 units in April 2025, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Domestic sales rose to 1,872,691 units, up from 1,458,784 units a year earlier. Exports also climbed, reaching 509,199 units, up from 368,201 in April 2025.

Production and Sales Overview
The two-wheeler segment accounted for about 81% of India's total vehicle production in April 2026. Out of 2,922,427 vehicles produced across all categories, two-wheelers contributed the largest share. Domestic two-wheeler sales represented the majority of total industry sales, with 1,872,691 units out of 2,316,671 units sold in April 2026. Exports from the segment made up over 81% of total vehicle exports for the month, highlighting India's strong position in international markets.
Growth occurred across motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds. Motorcycles remained the largest sub-segment, with production rising to 1,502,645 units from 1,166,462 units in April 2025. Domestic motorcycle sales reached 1,138,452 units, while exports increased to 426,499 units.
Key Manufacturers and Segment Performance
Hero MotoCorp led production gains, manufacturing 482,449 units in April 2026, up from 284,064 units a year earlier. Its domestic sales reached 472,918 units. Bajaj Auto produced 365,863 units and exported 229,326 units, the highest motorcycle export figure among all manufacturers. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India produced 259,798 units and sold 236,363 units domestically. Royal Enfield produced 95,134 units, with domestic sales of 104,129 units, mainly in the 250–350 CC category.
TVS Motor Company produced 222,189 units and exported 91,132 units, though domestic sales declined to 108,907 units. India Yamaha Motor produced 61,910 units and sold 38,450 units domestically. Suzuki Motorcycle India produced 14,143 units, with domestic sales of 1,821 units.
The 75–110 CC and 110–125 CC engine bands remained the highest-volume segments, with 5,89,294 and 4,66,573 units produced, respectively. The 250–350 CC segment, led by Royal Enfield, reached 100,681 units, up from 79,467 units in April 2025.
Scooter and Electric Two-Wheeler Trends
Scooter production rose to 827,750 units in April 2026, up from 648,633 units a year earlier. Domestic scooter sales increased to 691,993 units, while exports grew to 80,810 units. Honda led scooter production with 356,208 units. TVS Motor Company produced 208,452 scooters, and Suzuki Motorcycle India produced 103,018 units. Hero MotoCorp increased scooter output to 61,518 units.
Electric scooters saw strong growth. The above-250W electric sub-segment (AE2) recorded production of 112,465 units, up from 71,031 units in April 2025. Domestic sales in this category reached 112,176 units. Ather Energy Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company, and Hero MotoCorp all reported higher electric scooter production.
Moped Segment and Market Context
The moped segment, represented by TVS Motor Company's XL series, produced 43,192 units in April 2026, up from 37,771 units. Domestic sales reached 42,246 units, and exports rose to 1,890 units. Mopeds remain important for last-mile transport in rural and semi-urban areas.
India's two-wheeler market is among the world's largest, serving diverse consumer needs. The segment is sensitive to factors such as fuel prices, rural incomes, and credit availability. April marks the start of the financial year, often bringing new model launches and production increases. SIAM's monthly reports provide detailed data on production, sales, and exports by segment and engine capacity.
Government incentives and rising fuel costs have boosted electric two-wheeler production and sales. The AE2 electric scooter sub-category alone recorded domestic sales of 112,176 units in April 2026. Export growth reflects India's competitive manufacturing base, with Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company, and Honda among the top exporters. The strong performance in April 2026 highlights continued demand and investment in the two-wheeler sector.
