EV Adoption Task Force in India: Aiming to accelerate India’s EV drive, the Indian government has started constituting a dedicated task force. This initiative aligns with the Viksit Bharat vision of the Indian government. The new task force will be responsible for drafting a roadmap to boost EV drive in India. According to a report, the Ministry of Heavy Industries has sent a letter to OEMs to initiate the procedure. Once the automakers start the process, the MHI will finalise the establishment of the dedicated task force with the help of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and other responsible agencies.
What Will This Taskforce Do?
In a letter, the Ministry of Heavy Industries mentioned that the task force would be responsible for having discussions with the stakeholders through formal meetings and workshops. These workshops will be centred on important topics related to EV adoption and infrastructure development. According to a report, the respective authorities have requested various agencies to give their inputs on 11 major topics that will play a crucial role in drafting an action plan for EV adoption in India. The agencies involved in establishing this dedicated task force have begun approaching OEMs to take initiatives aligning with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
EV Industry's Skyrocketing Growth in India

In 2024 so far, the Indian EV industry has registered significant growth with the total number of EV registrations crossing 15 lakh units. It is a huge rise over the previous year's registration of 10 lakh units. These registrations have contributed to increasing the EV ratio to 6.3 per cent of total vehicles in India.
Achieving great success due to the FAME scheme, the government continued to take initiatives in the same direction with the introduction of programs like the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024. The EPMS scheme has a budget allocation of Rs. 500 Crore which is more than enough to create a buzz of electric vehicles in India.
How Will This Task Force Function?
