Haryana invites VinFast to set up EV manufacturing plant amid rising auto investments
Haryana is actively courting VinFast to set up an EV manufacturing plant, reinforcing its position as a key hub for automotive investments and electric mobility growth in India.
Haryana is strengthening its position as a hub for electric vehicles (EVs) and advanced mobility. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recently invited Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast to consider establishing manufacturing operations in the state. Saini was seen riding in a Limo Green electric cab, which is part of the VinGroup ecosystem. This move highlights Haryana’s ambitions in electric mobility and advanced manufacturing.
Key Highlights
- Haryana invited VinFast to consider local EV manufacturing operations
- State hosts over 50 major automotive and auto-component manufacturers
- VinFast has announced India plans with a Tamil Nadu facility
- Haryana offers a mature supplier ecosystem and proximity to NCR market
- The state government approved new projects for electronics and advanced manufacturing
Haryana’s Automotive Industry Landscape
Haryana is one of India’s largest automobile manufacturing states. The region hosts major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India. It also supports several commercial vehicle and tractor operations across Gurugram, Manesar, Dharuhera, and Faridabad. The Gurugram-Manesar belt has become a significant automotive cluster over the last two decades, backed by a dense network of suppliers and strong logistics.
The state is home to around 50 major automotive and auto-component manufacturers. There is also a much larger ancillary supplier network supporting these companies. Haryana continues to attract automotive investments. Earlier this week, Maruti Suzuki began commercial production at its second Kharkhoda plant, further reinforcing Haryana’s role in vehicle manufacturing.
VinFast’s Expansion and Strategic Opportunities
For VinFast, setting up manufacturing in Haryana could offer several advantages. The company would gain access to an established supplier ecosystem, localization support, engineering talent, and proximity to the National Capital Region (NCR) market. VinFast has stated that building a local supplier base is central to its long-term strategy in India. The company has already announced plans for a manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and is exploring further expansion in India.
VinFast has identified localization, supply-chain development, and ecosystem creation as key pillars of its India strategy. Industry experts note that a manufacturing presence in Haryana could help VinFast benefit from the state’s mature automotive component ecosystem. This is especially relevant as EV makers increasingly seek to localize electronics, powertrain systems, plastics, castings, and software-linked automotive components.
State Initiatives and Industry Trends
Haryana is actively promoting itself as a destination for manufacturing and future mobility. The state government has approved multiple industrial and auto-component projects under its industrial promotion framework. It has also introduced policies targeting electronics, batteries, logistics, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
This development comes as Indian states compete to attract EV and electronics investments. The automotive industry is undergoing a transformation towards electrification, software-defined vehicles, and localization-led manufacturing strategies. According to Ind-Ra, investments in India’s passenger vehicle sector will focus on EVs, exports, and premiumization.
