Indian Oil boosts auto LPG supply in Bengaluru by 300% as private station disruptions bite
Bengaluru’s auto LPG market is under strain, but Indian Oil has sharply increased supply to keep autorickshaws moving amid private station disruptions.

Auto LPG supply in Bengaluru has surged by nearly 300 percent as public outlets respond to a crisis caused by disruptions at private dispensing stations. The increase aims to meet the sharp rise in demand from auto drivers affected by the ongoing LPG shortage.
Key Highlights
- Auto LPG supply in Bengaluru increased by nearly 300 percent to address crisis
- Public outlets supplied 75.5 MT in a day compared to usual 23 MT before shortage
- Private dispensing stations disruptions caused a surge in demand at public outlets
- Karnataka statewide supplies doubled to over 83 MT daily from 43.5 MT pre-crisis
Supply Increases to Meet Demand
On Wednesday, an oil company supplied 75.5 metric tonnes (MT) of auto LPG in Bengaluru. This figure is significantly higher than the usual daily supply of around 23 MT before the crisis began. The company announced the increase on Thursday, stating it was necessary to support the city's auto drivers during the shortage.
Across Karnataka, the company has also doubled its auto LPG supplies. In recent days, it dispatched over 83 MT per day, compared to its pre-crisis average of around 43.5 MT daily. This step was taken to address the growing requirements throughout the state.
Market Disruptions and Impact
The surge in demand for auto LPG has been largely driven by disruptions at private auto LPG dispensing stations (ALDS). These private stations typically account for nearly 80 percent of the auto LPG market in both Bengaluru and Karnataka.
Due to the disruptions, many auto drivers have turned to public outlets, leading to increased pressure on these facilities. The crisis has affected the daily operations of auto drivers, who rely on consistent LPG supplies for their livelihoods.
Statewide Response and Ongoing Situation
Authorities and oil companies continue to monitor the situation closely. They are working to stabilize supply and ensure that public dispensing stations can meet the heightened demand. The situation remains dynamic as efforts continue to restore normal operations at private stations.
The LPG crisis highlights the dependence of the auto sector on private dispensing stations and the challenges faced when disruptions occur. The response from public outlets has provided temporary relief, but long-term solutions may be required to prevent future shortages.
CarBike 360 Says
Indian Oil’s swift supply increase offers immediate relief to Bengaluru’s auto drivers, but the wider issue is the city’s heavy dependence on private dispensing stations. Until those outlets return to normal operation, supply stability will remain crucial for daily mobility. For now, the ramp-up should help ease long queues and restore some confidence among commuters and autorickshaw operators.
