Kia has announced a voluntary recall for its EV6 crossover SUV in India, affecting 1,138 units. This recall is due to a potential issue with the car's Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), similar to the reason behind the recent recall of the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Vehicle Specifications
The Kia EV6 features a large 77.8 kWh battery pack, capable of delivering an ARAI-certified range of up to 708 km on a single charge. As a premium electric vehicle, the EV6 has gained popularity for its blend of design, modern features, performance, and range.
Recall Details
- Issue Identified: The recall is linked to a potential error in the ICCU, which may affect the performance of the EV6's 12V auxiliary battery. This battery powers essential vehicle systems such as headlights, the infotainment system, speakers, and the climate control system.
- Recall Scope: A total of 1,138 units, manufactured between March 3, 2022, and April 14, 2024, are affected by this recall.
- Resolution: Kia will update the ICCU software to address this issue at no additional cost to the owners.
Next Steps for Owners
Kia has notified the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) about this voluntary recall. Affected owners will be contacted, and an appointment will be scheduled for the software update at their convenience.

Import Route: The EV6 is imported as Completely Built Units (CBU), whereas the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is imported as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units for local assembly.
Performance:
- Single Motor RWD: 229 bhp and 350 Nm, with a range of up to 708 km.
- Dual Motor AWD: 325 bhp and 605 Nm total system output.
- Competitors: The EV6 competes with models such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Volvo C40 Recharge, Hyundai Ioniq 5, BMW iX1, and the newly launched Mercedes-Benz EQA.
Carbike360 Says
The recall aims to ensure the safety and reliability of the Kia EV6, reinforcing Kia's commitment to its customers and the growing demand for premium electric vehicles in India.
