Kia Motors has unveiled the facelifted 2024 Kia Sonet, a compact SUV that not only boasts a refreshed design but also comes equipped with advanced safety features. Among the standout features is the Level 1 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), designed to enhance the safety and provide an extra layer of protection for the drivers and the pedestrians both alike.
Understand what each ADAS function is able to do for you while driving.
Top 7 ADAS Features in 2024 Kia Sonet
Front Collision Warning with Front Collision Avoidance Assist (car/pedestrian/cycle)
Front Collision Warning (FCW) and Front Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)

The Sonet's Level 1 ADAS introduces a Front Collision Warning (FCW) and Front Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) technology. FCW utilizes sensors for detecting the distance between the vehicle and others present on the road. If a collision can happen then the system will issue a warning to the driver. FCA on other hand goes a step further by not only warning the driver but also taking action for preventing any collision, such as applying brakes or providing steering assistance.
Cycle Assist (FCA-C)

To further enhance the safety, the Sonet includes Front Collision-Avoidance Assist Cycle (FCA-C), a feature made for preventing collisions with bicycles. Using advanced sensors and radar technology, FCA-C detects the presence of bicycles in front of the vehicle, issuing the timely warnings and also intervening if necessary by applying brakes or by providing the steering assistance.
Pedestrian Assist (FCA-P)

Similarly, the Front Collision-Avoidance Assist Pedestrian (FCA-P) feature is also designed to prevent collisions with pedestrians. Employing the sensors, cameras, and radar technology, FCA-P detects the pedestrians in the path of the vehicle and issues warnings to the driver. But in case if a collision can happen then the system will intervene by applying the brakes or by providing the steering assistance.
Lane Keep Assist
The 2024 Sonet introduces a Lane Keep Assist (LKA), a feature that’s designed to automatically steer the vehicle back into its lane if the driver becomes inattentive. LKA uses the cameras and sensors for detecting the markings of the lane, providing gentle steering inputs for keeping the vehicle within its lane. This is especially useful in preventing any unintentional lane departures and also enhances the overall road safety.
Lane Departure Warning

To further aid in preventing any unintentional lane departures, the Sonet also includes a Lane Departure Warning (LDW) feature. LDW uses sensors to monitor the vehicle's position in relation to the markings of the lane. If the system detects any kind of drifting without the turn signal being activated then it issues an alert for bringing the driver's attention back to the road.
Lane Following Assist

Going a step beyond the Lane Keep Assist, the Sonet's Lane Following Assist (LFA) feature not only detects the lanes present on the road but also actively steers the vehicle back to the center of the road. This is particularly beneficial in case of heavy traffic or just during the long highway drives, providing a continuous assistance to the drivers who may experience some fatigue in between.
Auto High Beam Assist

Enhancing the visibility during the night-time driving, the Auto High Beam Assist (HBA) feature automatically adjusts the car's headlights based on the coming traffic. By switching between the high and low beams as necessary, the HBA also ensures maximum visibility for the driver while minimizing the risk of blinding the other drivers on the road.
Leading Vehicle Departure Alert

The Sonet also introduces a Leading Vehicle Departure Alert feature that’s designed to track the movements of the vehicle in front of the driver. This system also alerts the driver when the leading vehicle begins to move, helping in preventing any accidents in situations where the driver might be distracted or may not be paying attention.
Driver Attention Warning

Incorporating a Driver Attention Warning (DAW) feature, the Sonet can actively monitor the driver's behavior, such as the steering patterns and the eye movement. If any signs of drowsiness or distraction in any way are detected, DAW also issues an alert, reminding the driver to refocus on the road for safety. This feature also proves especially valuable during long drives or the night-time journeys.
Verdict: The 2024 Kia Sonet facelift not only brings a refreshed aesthetic but also elevates the standards of safety with its comprehensive Level 1 ADAS features. With a focus on collision prevention, lane assistance, and driver attention monitoring, the Sonet also aims to redefine the driving experience in the compact SUV segment.
