Kinetic Group backs Delhi’s 2028 petrol two-wheeler ban for Clean Mobility
With Delhi proposing a complete ban on new petrol two-wheelers by 2028, Kinetic Group Vice Chairman Ajinkya Firodia is praising the move.

The Delhi government’s ambitious proposal to completely ban petrol-powered two-wheelers by 2028 is already drawing strong support from key industry leaders. Ajinkya Firodia, Vice Chairman of the Kinetic Group, has publicly welcomed this forward-looking transition. He views the sweeping policy as the exact kind of decisive leadership India desperately needs to combat severe air pollution and mounting public health challenges.
Calling it a pivotal moment for urban mobility, Firodia emphasized that electric scooters are inherently suited for our dense cities. With average daily commutes barely touching forty kilometers and modern electric alternatives easily delivering over a hundred kilometers per charge, continuing to rely on imported fossil fuels makes little sense. He hopes other major Indian cities quickly follow Delhi’s lead.
The BS4 Transition Phase
Transitioning an entire vehicle segment is never simple, but history consistently demonstrates that bold legislative mandates often drive the most impactful industry innovations. Firodia drew a compelling comparison to the sudden leap to BS4 emission norms directed by the Supreme Court a few years ago. While the abrupt April 1st ban on non-compliant vehicle sales initially sparked industry-wide concern, the automotive sector adapted rapidly, emerged more resilient, and ultimately delivered superior products to consumers.
Practicality in Urban Mobility
When you analyze the daily usage patterns of an average Indian commuter, the argument for sticking with traditional petrol scooters quickly begins to fade. Two-wheelers are primarily utilized for short, predictable runs of around 30 to 40 kilometers, whereas today’s advanced electric models comfortably deliver real-world ranges spanning 80 to 120 kilometers on a single charge.
Firodia notes that because of these massive improvements, there is essentially no practical justification left for burning petrol in a heavily congested urban environment.
Reducing Oil Import Resilience
Beyond just cutting localized tailpipe emissions, this massive transition to electric power stands to significantly reduce India’s deep economic reliance on expensive imported oil. This critical reduction gives the country a strategic edge in an increasingly complex and unpredictable global geopolitical landscape while simultaneously driving local economic growth.
Kinetic DX will change the lead

Walking the talk, Firodia's team recently introduced the all-new Kinetic DX, built with an impressive 99 percent localization rate. This locally developed electric scooter is engineered specifically to match or even surpass the rigorous performance metrics of traditional internal combustion engine scooters. Manufactured in an expansive 87,000-square-foot facility, the DX represents their unwavering commitment to delivering highly reliable, safe, and truly Made-in-India mobility solutions.
Market Outlook
For Ajinkya Firodia, this 2028 mandate represents far more than just a shift in daily transport; it is a fundamental choice about the sustainable future we actively choose to create. By prioritizing long-term well-being and clean air over short-term convenience, such policies ensure a healthier environment for future generations.
Ultimately, this forward-thinking approach positions India as a confident global leader in innovation, sustainability, and industrial self-reliance.
