Dzire Tops Sales in a SUV-Focused Market
Maruti Suzuki Dzire led the industry in sales for FY26, surpassing all other models. The sedan's strong performance highlights ongoing demand for non-SUV vehicles. Maruti Suzuki's share in the sedan segment increased from 45.8% in FY17 to 57.2% in FY26. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer for Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki, noted that the Dzire's success demonstrates continued customer interest in sedans. He emphasized that, despite the SUV trend, some buyers still prefer sedans for their specific needs.
Banerjee stated that Maruti Suzuki remains committed to offering vehicles across all body styles. He explained that the company follows a technologically agnostic approach and will maintain a presence in multiple segments. The launch of the new Dzire last year was a strategic move, anticipating ongoing demand for sedans. Maruti Suzuki's strategy proved effective as the Dzire became the top-selling model in FY26.
Company Strategy and Market Performance

Banerjee pointed out that Maruti Suzuki currently has no other sedan in its portfolio. Many customers who previously bought the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz are now upgrading to SUVs or MPVs, though some still choose the Dzire. He clarified that Maruti Suzuki has not exited the sedan segment. The full model change of the Dzire in FY24–25 reinforced the company's belief that well-designed sedans can succeed in the market.
Banerjee highlighted that different vehicle types serve different use cases. While SUVs are suitable for certain road conditions, sedans remain relevant for many buyers. He projected industry growth at around 5% for the coming year.
