Maruti Suzuki India has launched a Smart Factory Lab at the Government Polytechnic College in Lucknow. The facility will train about 400 students each year in automation, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and Industry 4.0 technologies. This initiative forms part of Maruti Suzuki’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program and aims to enhance skill development in advanced manufacturing.

Smart Factory Lab Details
The new lab is designed to provide diploma students with practical experience in modern manufacturing systems. It features equipment for automation, IIoT, pneumatics, motion control, and energy measurement. The setup simulates real-world manufacturing environments, giving students exposure to the latest industry standards.
Maruti Suzuki expects around 400 students at the Lucknow institution to complete training at the lab during its first year. The company’s experts will guide students, helping them develop technical proficiency in smart manufacturing systems. This approach aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and the requirements of shop-floor roles in the automotive and manufacturing sectors.
CSR and Skill Development Initiatives
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India, stated that the Smart Factory Labs support the Government of India’s Skill India mission. The labs are intended to address skill gaps in manufacturing-focused trades. Maruti Suzuki has also established four Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) centers in partnership with the governments of India and Japan.
During the inauguration, Maruti Suzuki awarded merit-based scholarships to five students from Government Polytechnic College, Lucknow. The company’s broader CSR efforts include supporting 31 government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across 10 states and union territories. Maruti Suzuki also operates advanced manufacturing labs in 18 ITIs.
According to the company, approximately 15,000 students received training at Maruti Suzuki-supported ITIs during the financial year 2025-26. These initiatives are part of the company’s ongoing commitment to skill development and industry-academia collaboration in India.
