Montra Electric has signed two separate Memorandums of Understanding with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. These agreements support a structured fleet modernization program across the Delhi-National Capital Region. The company’s medium and heavy commercial vehicle division and small commercial vehicle division finalized the agreements independently.
Key Highlights
- Montra Electric signed two MoUs with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for fleet modernization.
- Agreements support replacing high-emission diesel trucks and buses in the Delhi-NCR region.
- Policy framework offers incentives to adopt zero-emission commercial vehicles and improve air quality.
Government Policy and Regional Framework
The agreements align with the central government's infrastructure support scheme. This scheme operates under the National Capital Region Planning Board policy. The regional framework aims to incentivize transport operators to replace older, high-emission diesel commercial trucks and buses. These vehicles currently operate within the boundaries of the national capital.
The policy seeks to address urban air quality issues in the capital corridor. It does so by offering structured asset-replacement incentives for regional freight corridors. The framework encourages the adoption of cleaner vehicles to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
Montra Electric’s Role and Commitments
By formalizing these agreements, Montra Electric intends to provide zero-emission replacement options. These options target logistics operators and corporate fleet managers looking to transition from legacy internal combustion engine vehicles. The company’s approach supports the government’s goal of reducing emissions in commercial transport.
The separate commitments from the e-MHCV and e-SCV divisions allow Montra Electric to address different segments of the commercial vehicle market. This strategy ensures that both medium and heavy commercial vehicles, as well as small commercial vehicles, can participate in the modernization program.
Broader Industry Context
The policy framework comes as the automotive sector faces new regulatory and trade developments. Industry groups, such as ACMA, note that international agreements with the UK and EU, along with a proposed US trade deal, could strengthen export opportunities. These developments coincide with efforts to modernize fleets and reduce emissions domestically.
Changes in regulatory thresholds and fiscal incentives for high-end vehicle models are also under discussion. Luxury brands argue for adjustments to price-based limits, while the broader passenger vehicle segment continues to evolve. Successive vehicle revisions have impacted first-time buyers, and luxury segment growth lags behind the overall market.
