BMW has introduced the latest generation of its X3 long wheelbase (LWB) model, initially targeting the Chinese market. This new addition joins the X1 and X5 in BMW's line-up of LWB SUVs in China. The X3 LWB is designed to cater to buyers seeking increased legroom in the second row. Measuring 4,865mm in length, it surpasses the standard X3 by 110mm. The new X3 LWB will be manufactured at BMW’s Shenyang facility in partnership with China's Brilliance Automotive.
The new X3 LWB offers two powertrain options:
- 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 190hp
- 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 258hp
Both variants come equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. In China, BMW will continue to offer the standard wheelbase X3 with the M50 xDrive powertrain, which will be imported from the United States.
The X3 LWB features an illuminated kidney grille and is available in six paint finishes, including a Frozen option. Inside, the X3 LWB has the BMW Curved Display, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and the unique BMW interaction bar on the dashboard. Higher trim levels come with an M Sport design package.
BMW is considering introducing long-wheelbase SUVs to the Indian market, given the success of their LWB sedan models and the popularity of SUVs in India. The next-generation BMW X3 is expected to launch in India next year, which could present an opportunity for BMW to introduce an LWB variant in this popular SUV segment. However, while this possibility is being explored, it isn’t officially confirmed that a BMW X3 LWB will come to India.
