Citroen is all prepared to launch its latest offering for the Indian market, the Basalt coupe-SUV, on August 2. The Basalt is set to strengthen Citroen's presence in the competitive compact SUV segment, with an expected price range of Rs 11 lakh to Rs 12 lakh.
Latest spy shots have revealed that the Citroen Basalt will be available in a range of colors beyond the initially known Bright Yellow. While the full color palette has not been officially announced, these new sightings suggest that customers will have multiple options to choose from when personalizing their Basalt coupe-SUV.
The Citroen Basalt stands out with its distinctive coupe profile, featuring:
- A sloping roofline and blacked-out pillars
- Thick body cladding and 17-inch alloy wheels
- Edgy taillamps and a rugged rear bumper
Inside, the Basalt offers a range of premium features:
- Leatherette seat upholstery
- Front and rear armrests with side supports for headrests
- 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Fully digital instrument cluster with tachometer
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity
Safety features include six airbags, auto headlights, and auto-dimming IRVMs. Top variants will also come equipped with a sunroof.
The Basalt will utilize the same powertrain as the C3 Aircross, featuring a 1.2-litre petrol engine under its bonnet. The engine generates 110 PS and 205 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual (with slightly reduced torque at 190 Nm) and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The Basalt will face stiff competition in the compact SUV segment, going up against established models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Honda Elevate. Its coupe-like design puts it in direct competition with the upcoming Tata Curvv, set to launch on August 7.
Production of the Citroen Basalt reportedly began in mid-June, indicating the company's readiness for the August 2 launch. Positioned above the C3 Aircross in Citroen's line-up, the Basalt represents the brand's efforts to capture a larger share of the growing compact SUV market in India.
