New Deadline: February 29
NHAI officially announced the extension on Wednesday, moving the deadline to February 29. This decision comes in line with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules and is aimed at ensuring that FASTag users comply with the KYC norms for continued access to the digital toll collection system.
FASTags, introduced on February 15, 2021, have become a crucial component of automatic toll collection, reducing queues at toll plazas and enhancing overall efficiency.
'One Vehicle, One FASTag' Initiative

To further streamline the toll collection process, NHAI initiated the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' campaign. This campaign discourages the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or the coupling of multiple FASTags to a single vehicle, which is a violation of RBI guidelines.
In its recent announcement, NHAI stated, “Attention FASTag users. The deadline for the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative and completing KYC updation for your latest FASTag has been extended till 29th February 2024."
Current Status and Expectations
As of the January 31 deadline, NHAI reported that only seven lakh multiple FASTags out of the 1.27 crore issued across India had been closed. NHAI anticipates that the remaining FASTag accounts will be updated before the extended deadline.
