Extraordinary Achievement: Nissan Ariya EV Completes 30,000 km Expedition
In a groundbreaking accomplishment, the Nissan Ariya electric vehicle (EV) has successfully completed a remarkable pole-to-pole journey, covering an extensive distance of 30,000 kilometers. The achievement is credited to Chris and Julie Ramsey, adventurous husband and wife, who undertook the challenging expedition that started at the Arctic Sea's 1823 Magnetic North Pole and ended at the South Pole. The incredible journey spanned over a period of 10 months, making the Nissan Ariya the first EV to achieve such a feat.
The Pole-To-Pole Challenge

The epic journey, which began in February, saw the Nissan Ariya navigate through diverse terrains and climates across North, Central, and South America. The adventurous duo then traversed the most secluded continent on Earth, ultimately reaching the challenging terrains of the South Pole. Notably, this marks the first time any car, especially an electric vehicle, has completed such a demanding expedition.
In 2017, Chris and Julie Ramsey laid the groundwork for the Pole-to-Pole challenge after successfully completing the Mongol Rally in a Nissan LEAF. This earlier accomplishment marked the first usage of an EV in conquering the 10,000-kilometer challenge, setting the stage for the more ambitious Pole-to-Pole journey.
The Resilient Nissan Ariya
The Nissan Ariya EV used for this incredible feat underwent minimal modifications, featuring only the addition of 39-inch BF Goodrich tires. Notably, the Ariya with e-4ORCE all-wheel control successfully withstood the extreme temperatures and high altitudes during the challenging expedition. The vehicle, in its factory-standard form, retained its original powertrain and battery specifications, showcasing its robust design.
The Ariya is equipped with two battery pack options: a 63 kWh battery and an 87 kWh battery pack, offering multiple motor options and an all-wheel-drive setup. The vehicle's performance in the Pole-to-Pole journey further emphasizes its capabilities to navigate challenging terrains and harsh weather conditions.
Future Prospects for India
In light of this extraordinary accomplishment, the Nissan Ariya was also spotted multiple times on Indian roads, sparking speculation that the company was testing the EV for a potential launch in the country in the near future. The successful pole-to-pole journey serves as a testament to the Ariya's capabilities, instilling a sense of confidence in the potential Indian buyers and consumers regarding the adaptability of the electric vehicles in the diverse and demanding conditions.

As the automotive industry shifts towards sustainable solutions, the Ariya's success hints at a promising future for electric mobility, with potential implications for the Indian market.
