Skoda Peaq electric SUV India launch expected in 2026

Skoda is evaluating the introduction of its new Peaq electric SUV to the Indian market. The Peaq will be the largest model in Skoda’s global line-up and is scheduled for its international debut on June 23, 2026.

Skoda Peaq: India Launch Prospects

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director for Skoda Auto India, confirmed that the Skoda Peaq is under consideration for India. He stated that Skoda aims to bring a premium product rather than a basic model at a high price. Gupta emphasized the importance of launching a well-equipped vehicle to represent the brand in India. He also expressed his ambition to introduce the company’s global portfolio to India within the next year.

Skoda’s current global electric vehicle lineup includes the entry-level Epiq, priced at 26,000 euros (about Rs 28.70 lakh) in Europe. However, Epiq’s size, range, and price do not align with the needs of the Indian market.

Competing models in India, such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki eVitara, and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV, offer more favorable specifications for local buyers. Skoda Elroq and Enyaq EVs face similar challenges in India.

With the Peaq, Skoda is less focused on sales volume and more on establishing its brand in the electric vehicle segment. The flagship Peaq could help pave the way for more affordable electric vehicles in the future, including those manufactured locally.

Peaq Variants and Technical Details

The Skoda Peaq will be available internationally in three variants: 60, 90, and 90x. These variants will feature lithium-ion (NMC) battery packs with capacities of 63 kWh and 91 kWh. The range-topping 90x variant will have two electric motors, providing all-wheel drive and a combined output of 299 HP. The other variants will use a single electric motor with rear-wheel drive, delivering up to 286 HP.

Skoda claims that the Peaq can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 27 to 28 minutes using DC fast charging. The SUV will offer a top speed of up to 180 kph, depending on the variant. The maximum claimed driving range is over 600 km on a single charge.

Local Manufacturing and Future Plans

Gupta noted that bringing a locally manufactured electric vehicle to India will require more time. Skoda needs a cost-efficient, localized platform and must address supply chain requirements before committing to a launch date. Gupta reiterated that the process cannot be accelerated due to these necessary steps. As a result, the Peaq has a higher chance of arriving in India before smaller or locally built Skoda electric models, which are still at least a couple of years away.
