Norton Motorcycles, owned by TVS, is preparing to enter the Indian market soon. The British brand will debut with the Manx R, a motorcycle recently reviewed in Spain. The review will be published on 20 May. The Manx R aims to offer both track performance and road usability, setting it apart from many litre-class sportbikes that often prioritize track capabilities over street comfort.
Key Highlights
- Norton Manx R features a 1,200cc V4 engine with 206 HP and 130 Nm torque
- Signature trim weighs 203 kg and includes full carbon fiber bodywork and unique lighting
- Advanced rider aids and an eight-inch touchscreen display developed by TVS in Bangalore
- UK price for the Signature trim is £38,750, or about Rs 50 lakh
Engine and Performance
The Norton Manx R features a 1,200cc V4 engine with a 72-degree firing order. This engine produces a peak output of 206 HP. While this figure does not lead the segment, the Manx R delivers 130 Nm of peak torque, the highest among litre-class sportbikes. Norton has tuned the engine for strong mid-range performance without sacrificing the high-revving nature expected from a superbike. TVS assembles the engine in Hosur, India, while the rest of the motorcycle is built at Norton’s Solihull factory in the United Kingdom.
Chassis, Suspension, and Braking
The Manx R uses a cast-aluminum monocoque frame designed for more flexibility than typical superbikes, making it suitable for street use. The base model comes with a manually adjustable suspension. Higher trims, including Apex, Signature, and First Edition, feature semi-active Marzocchi suspension. This system adapts damping characteristics in real time based on road conditions and riding style. Braking is managed by Brembo Hypure calipers, and carbon-fiber wheels help reduce unsprung mass.
The Signature variant has a wet weight of 203 kg without fuel. The standard and Apex trims weigh 207 kg and 210 kg, respectively. The Signature trim also includes full carbon-fiber bodywork, unique lighting, a special screen startup animation, and a single seat.
Technology and Features
The Manx R matches its competitors in technology. It offers three preset ride modes and two customizable track modes. Rider aids include wheelie control, cornering ABS, slide control, cornering cruise control, multi-level traction control, launch control, hill hold control, and a combined brake system. All features are accessible through an eight-inch touchscreen display developed by TVS in Bangalore.
Expected Launch and Pricing
TVS and Norton have not announced a specific launch date for the Manx R in India, but the debut is expected within a few months. Pricing remains a key question. In the UK, the Signature trim costs £38,750 (about Rs. 50 lakh), which is higher than the BMW S 1000 RR. However, the base model is only around £2,000 more than the BMW. It is yet to be seen how Norton will price the Manx R in India.

CarBike 360 Says
With its explosive V4 performance, premium electronics and striking British design, the Norton Manx R is shaping up to be one of the most desirable superbikes heading to India. If Norton gets the pricing and launch strategy right, the Manx R could become a serious halo model for the brand and a compelling choice for enthusiasts seeking exclusivity and performance in equal measure.
