Ola Electric is gearing up to introduce its much-anticipated Gen 3 platform in India on January 31, 2025. This marks a significant technological leap from the current Gen 2 models, promising substantial upgrades in performance, design, and features. With an official launch date set, the first Gen 3-based scooter is expected to hit the Indian market by March 2025, with Ola’s popular S1 range likely to be the first to benefit from the new platform.

While specific details remain under wraps, Ola's Gen 3 platform is expected to revolutionise the electric scooter segment with cutting-edge innovations. The company aims to enhance the overall riding experience by integrating an advanced battery system, a more powerful motor, and a smarter control unit. One of the most significant upgrades is the incorporation of the battery within the scooter’s frame, improving impact resistance and durability.

The highlight of the Gen 3 platform is the introduction of ‘Bharat Cells,’ an indigenously developed battery technology boasting a higher energy density compared to the existing 2170 cells. This breakthrough is expected to deliver superior range and performance, addressing a crucial aspect of EV adoption in India. Additionally, Ola is making a bold shift from traditional permanent magnet motors to a newly developed magnetised electrical coil design. This advancement enhances thermal efficiency, ensuring quicker acceleration and a more responsive ride.

Another major innovation lies in the powertrain architecture. The motor control unit (MCU) will now be directly integrated into the motor, streamlining operations for improved efficiency. Furthermore, Ola has consolidated the electric control units, MCU, and battery management system into a single chip, resulting in a more compact and optimised system.

Despite the extensive upgrades beneath the surface, the Gen 3 scooters are expected to retain Ola’s signature design language, albeit with subtle structural refinements. On the features front, Ola will continue to offer some elements from its current models while introducing a larger and more advanced TFT screen alongside a comprehensive software overhaul.

The Gen 3 platform is also expected to bring two entirely new product series: S2 and S3, alongside the existing S1 range. The S2 series will cater to diverse rider needs with three distinct models: a long-range tourer, a city-centric commuter, and a performance-orientated variant. Meanwhile, the S3 lineup will focus on premium offerings, including a maxi scooter and an adventure-style model.

With these advancements, Ola Electric is poised to redefine India’s electric scooter landscape, delivering smarter, more efficient, and high-performance EVs. More details will emerge as the launch date approaches, but one thing is certain: Ola’s Gen 3 platform is set to push the boundaries of electric mobility in India.
