The Indian government is putting more pressure on Ola Electric; the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) is asking the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for advice. This follows hundreds of consumer complaints that led to the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) sending the manufacturer of electric vehicles a show-cause notice.
Ola Electric's Issues Get Worse
The CCPA has issued a show-cause notice to Ola Electric, under the leadership of Bhavish Aggarwal, following over 10,000 consumer complaints. The complaints mostly center on problems like new car deliveries, repairs, and servicing delays. The Ministry of Heavy Industries has now been aware of these allegations and has asked ARAI for comments in order to look into the situation further.
ARAI and EV Schemes' roles
An important part of government programs encouraging the use of electric vehicles is the ARAI. Under programs like PM E-Drive and its successor, Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles (FAME), it is in charge of granting eligibility certifications. Companies like Ola Electric, whose models, such the S1 Pro, S1 Air, and S1 X, benefit from the program's incentives, receive demand subsidies from these schemes.
Service Station and Guarantee Conditions
The Ministry of Heavy Industries demands that all Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) taking part in the FAME and PM E-Drive programs keep service facilities operational and offer warranties. Ola Electric is expected to follow certain guidelines as part of these projects. These demands are highlighted in the ministry's letter to ARAI, which also raises concerns about Ola Electric's adherence.
